The HAL HIS-10 scanner was originally released for the NEC PC-9801 with a PC-98 interface card, the scanner unit and software. The actual scanner unit was re-released as part of the Handy Scanner-MSX2 package in 1990 by HAL Laboratory.

On the left side, this scanner has two wheels and one slider to adjust the brightness, the dithering and the contrast. On the right side, a switch allows to select the type of scanning (16x16 mm or 8x8 mm).

Note: HAL has produced 2 other scanners (HIS-10Y and HVS-10), the differences between them are unknown.
