Soft reset isn't even that reliable because 50% of tested games can't even soft reset. Another thing is that disk games don't support joymega at all so hardware reset is the only option. However is there any other hardware or software option to soft reset or get back to Sofarun/DOS menu?? For instance mapping a keyboard key, adding a macro, mini script or whatever there can be

Hi VegaVegas,

SofaRun customer service listening to you... We understand you are not happy with our products. We offer you a total refund of what you've paid. Amount of $0.00 has just been transfered to your bank account Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

More seriously, the soft reset only operates for ROMs that are patched with JoyMega. Not all ROMs can be successfully patched (that implies replacing specific sequences of code). Most of the Compile and Konami games, that are using a "standard" way of accessing keyboard can be patched for JoyMega, other games can't.

There's no support for JoyMega for disk and tapes images yet, things are more tricky for these medias, but that might be done one day (maybe with external .IPS or something files), we'll see !

Not yet as I said above. We are on a 80's machine here, there are no macros or script running in the OS background when a game is launched. Often, the OS is not even called at all by games, the only way to change a game behavior is to hack and patch its code, that's not so easy (specially if it has to be automated).

Meanwhile, you can try this:

or even that.

No sarcasm about the remote power switch here, that's what I'm also using in my gaming room, for games that do not support soft reset and for other consoles :)

@Louthrax hehe, now there's a wireless smart plugs on market, i got a few, and recommend for everyone, for such situations Big smile

one of use cases - i want slot expanders and computer be turned on and off together, otherwise it is easy to forget that expander is powered while computer is off and have risk inserting something into powered expander. now it is easy - i have all connected to one outlet which in turn connected via wireless smart plug. so you switch all stuff on and off instantly with it Big smile

I mean soft reset by controller is still supported on 80s machine, even though it shouldn't so some kind of method was found. I don't mind reset by controller much as it is right now as it is useful for booting many MSX1 games and they can be launched pretty much by any mapper as they are atrociously simple. However, as you know, many of them get boring after 30 seconds or even 5 seconds so it is convenient to reset and scroll through them fast. The problem is the Sofarun reset by controller feature seems to work only at times when the controller is read by the game. When a game uses a keyboard for instance, the reset by controller will never work. Maybe there are better ways to do this

It's quite the opposite in fact: JoyMega patches the keyboards access in order to "insert keys" to the game. Games reading only joysticks can't be patched for JoyMega, so soft reset does not work in this case. But I think there are almost no games reading only joystick and not keyboard on MSX. It more depends on the way the keyboard is accessed.

Of course there are other ways to do that (I already tries lots of things), but they are not really simpler (interruptions are often disabled or interruption hooks arereset) and won't work in many cases.

Ah, good point about separate power input for the slot expanders. Just curious: what is the configuration for which you had to add an external power supply ? I never really needed that here, even with lots of things connected (it might depend on the MSX power of course).
