I think you at least have an option not to buy. Why to bother people with your choice of not buying? Hannibal

because its my own money, and i want to know what makes it worth 399euros. am i a "bother" just for asking?

I think everything everybody says here to him is more of preaching to deaf ears.

i have not made a single post rejecting ltursan's explanation at all, nor have i indicated such notions in any way.

ltursan's explanation was very clear and concise, and answered my question very specifically, which i have accepted.

why would you suggest that his explanation was in vain, when it was not?

I agree, but it was a response for the topic starter price judging attitude, like that. Judging for judging, eye for an eye... rofl
(well i'm harsh sometimes, so DON'T JUDGE ME, it is unnessessary)

so you considered it morally wrong for someone to judge the price of something?

since the day you were born, have you ever walked into a store and said "oh that product is expensive, i'm not going to buy that until it gets discounted"??? and at the time, did the sales person at the store walk up to you to berated you for having a "price judging attitude", and that hes not going to bother convincing you to buy the product, because it would just "fall on deaf years", before walking away whist telling you that "Why to bother people with your choice of not buying? "

so how would you feel if someone acted like this towards you Pencioner? can you answer this question at least?

Not "morally", but it's wrong to judge a price of something without having at least thought about it. Your first post, translated for a car, would be something like : "Don't you think a car is too expensive ? After all, it's just 4 tires and a gas tank glued together". It was so out of touch with reality that it resulted in that tone in the answers (including mine, for which I'm sorry).

It must probably be taken in the context of the whole reaction to the MSXVR. It seems that the community is somehow divided upon that project: some (like me) consider a very good initiative, a good product at a fair price. Some others won't even touch it, because it's emulation. So someone (like me) could see your initial post as yet another attack on the MSXVR, this time on the price.

As it was said before, not everyone has the knowledge of all the efforts and details it takes to realize such a project. But now you know ...

It's a premium box produced in limited quantities; of course it is expensive.

yes i can answer this question (but this is answer for second question only because it was last in the row and i feel like i want to answer only one question from you) Tongue

but please, go ahead, it become funny at some point Big smile you also can have a look at f.e. Playsoniq and also whine at its price. need some more suggestions? google for Lotharek Hydra and ask him also why it is so expensive, it is just a scart switch... and so on. people got indulged by cheap chinese clones of everything (when there's design and development shamelessly stolen, so they can make it cheap because they didn't invest anything in it, and also by using low quality materials, cheap low quality assembling etc)

i'm offboarding from this precious discussion. i just see no reason because i don't believe blueagent will change his mind even a little. I don't like treading water and pounding sand

There's a difference between expensive and a lot of money. For you it could be a lot of money, or too much even, to spend on one item, but that does not make it expensive.

Chinese msx clones, that might happen one day. I know they have been making nes and gameboy clones for ages and many other fake consoles. But I also noticed they make Everdrive clones but like 1/3 price(flash carts for megadrive, master system, nes, gameboy, pc engine etc). So, imagine finding a clone mega flash rom cart for 30 euros on ebay.

I don’t think is overpriced. Low volume hardware production is always expensive compared to high volumes because there are fixed costs (e.g molds, machine setups) that cannot be spread across tens of thousands of units.

In my view the price seems fair. And I don’t think the guys making it expect to make any money out of it other than enough to cover the expenses.

I doubt the market is big enough for the Chinese to make a clone product.
Although i was quite positively surprised to see that the MSXVR has close to 500 orders. I didn't expect that either BTW. It's one of the most impressive hardware projects for the MSX.

gaula82 said earlier in his old post that he was a coder of all the graphics drivers for the pi3 and he suspected that whatever software was in the MSXVR was derived from that or open source, or somewhere along that line, that is his opinion of course, not mine, but when i read what he wrote, it did not seemed to me as if the MSXVR maker had hired a team of professional coders to write software for them, which i can imagine must be very costly for them, and would certainly justify the higher price point of the MSXVR if that were the case (along with all the materials, parts and plastic and everything else that others have mentioned)

Metalion wrote:

Pencioner referenced something akin to what i once read in the bible, or as Pencioner so puts it "Judging for judging, eye for an eye" inferring that i was only judged by him and others, because i took the initiative to judged the price of the MSXVR first, hence why i used the term "morally" in reciprocation.

in any case Metalion, i thank you for your detailed and thorough explanation as well.

i have already stated earlier that i accepted jltursan's explanation that the MSX is expensive, so in the future perhaps i might buy an MSXVR in its original price afterall, but know that human beings don't always change their mind in an instant, like the flick of a switch in a computer, so you need to stop going back to that over and over again, like you said you would....but still haven't

Pencioner wrote:

not as funny as your double standards of wanting to judge others, but not wanting yourself to be judged, or you so put it "DON'T JUDGE ME, it is unnessessary".

since you so prided yourself on your wealth of knowledge on this matter, then all you had to do was answer my inquiry, there was no need for you to continuously act in a mean spirited manner, it reflects poorly on your character, and diminishes you in the eyes of others.

that's cute, but remember, you have the right to offend others, other have the right to feel offended and say something back.
