The KUC needs the build cartridge. There is special hardware as a DAC build in. You can´t run it with an emulator, but you can build your own Konami collection.
I have a doubt.
If exists Konami Ultimate Collection cartridge emulation in openMSX, but I need a special hardware to run, what is the purpose of extension?
Even if we forget the KUC support, openMSX emulates the DAC of some Konami cartridges (it's also emulated in blueMSX).
So, it is not relevant with the question in the first post of this thread.
My experience with this forum is different. People who try to help and answering questions thats been asked a hundred times before. Surely everybody got all the Konami roms, but in fact their under license and owned by Konami. They are not freeware. We all are very lucky no one of the bigger publisher is going to take care of their old products till now.
I wouldn't put a collection of roms to the internet and step with one foot to jail. Even Manuel did sell his cartridge without roms.
And on the other hand I want to honour the work people do when developing great new hardware for our platform. It's easy to get a copy of the KUC, just write a mail to Manuel.
Or make your own collection.
Simple as that.
Paulo Volkova: you can use the openMSX KUC support in two ways.
1. Use the KUC extension and use the flashing program to flash it, like on the real system. Whenever you use the extension after that, it will just run the KUC ROM. So, this whole method is very much like how you would use the real hardware: you simply insert the empty flash cart and you will need to use the MSX to flash it.
2. Cheating: start openMSX with KUC.ROM, but do not forget to select the KonamiUltimateCollection
mapper type for it. This will behave like an already flashed KUC cartridge.
Manuel.
I'll try it to see if it works.
A question: in first method, which cartridge do I have to insert to flash in openMSX?
Thank you very much for the help.
Inserting the KUC extension is the same as inserting the KUC cartridge.
Manuel.
Finally I was able to make a functional KUC file in both methods (kuc.rom and konamiultimatecollection.sram). The problem was in some roms with wrong sizes.
I have one last doubt: the items "Megarom 1", "Megarom 2", "Megarom 3" and "Megarom 4" at the end of the kuc list have some function?
Once again, thank you very much for all the help.
Great to hear that! Looks like Guillian was right after all. About your question: I guess only he can answer it.
MEGAROM 1-4 are empty slots (512K each one). You can put extra ROMs there.
Someone has sent me a proper KUC.rom.
I run it on openmsx like an ordinary rom (with turbor config and KUC extension).
It loads the game menu. When I choose a game it reboot and loads again the game menu.
So this way don't works for me. The other way is to flash the kuc extension.
I spent 2 days to tried flash a proper konamiultimatecollection.sram from kuc.rom but I can't find a way to do it!
Maybe a guide like the excellent MFR+SD guide will help!
