I really do like the concept though. I guess in a way, Manbow 2 was a predecessor of the MegaFlashROM SCC+?

I just looked at the openMSX source code and noticed that Manbow 2’s 2nd PSG is also at I/O port 10H, just like the MegaFlashROM SCC+. So that means it’s compatible with VGMPlay, yay Smile.

When I write a MegaFlashROM PSG detection routine for it in VGMPlay (currently it’s just assumed present), I should probably also take Manbow 2 and the other similar games (Goonies? Hamaraja Night?) into account.

On a side note, my cartridge of Manbow 2 has no label and booklet, and I never received them from Sunrise afterwards… Kinda sucks, it doesn’t look great this way and also on the 2nd hand market, my copy is pretty much worthless because of it Sad.

Konamito had also a bad experience with the Manbow 2 package : http://www.msxblog.es/unboxing-de-manbow-2/

there is no problem of missing envelopes when one has an SCC.
SCC scale is not enough when SCC is the weaker in volume.

I wonder what is the original tune of nemesis.
because it has no AY leveling tool.

Just want to “annotate” that statement…

If the cartridge already includes a CPLD for the SCC, there’s probably enough room to also include a PSG, so in that sense there is no cost. In this case, discussing SCC games, that is probably the case. However a CPLD is not a cheap component by itself, so if you did not already have one in your cartridge, a PSG will add some cost.

The discussion started with this, I think:

Even if Norakomi send you the rom dump. It works only on a MegaflashRom SCC from Spain (with a second PSG integrated in the FPGA) or emulators.

I haven't yet got what is the idea behind having two PSGs anyway?

So the reason to use the second PSG in the cartridge was to get a perfect sound balance and/or to avoid problems with 8250%55/80 machines.
Both in Goonies and Manbow 2 that extra PSG has no cost.
Also, probably no one will publish a new MSX cartridge game using real SCCs. It probably will use FPGAs or similar. In this case, the extra PSG should have no cost.
But, of course, is the developer who decides to use the PSG or not.

about the magic that makes things at no cost, please send the magic to those who announced the MSX3.
they are stuck in the section of turbo z80 with compatible slots, as usual.

the "no cost" case is a special case of a game released by a playcartridge manufactor.
but. at the point where one has that hardware spec.
I still would level the AY. and then have the awesome dual AY.

Ok. Follow this algorithm:

10 I=100
20 READ PREVIOUS POSTS.
30 TRY TO UNDERSTAND THEM.
40 IF UNDERSTOOD GOTO 60
50 I=I-1: IF I>0 GOTO 20 ELSE GOTO 110
60 I=100
70 WRITE AN ANSWER THAT MAKES SENSE
80 IF ACCOMPLISHED GOTO 100
90 I=I-1: IF I>0 GOTO 70 ELSE GOTO 110
100 PUBLISH IT
110 HAVE SOME BEER

Why are you reprimanding people for downloading a ROM of Manbow 2?

Because is the same story always, Grauw. If you put an extra on your game that emulators can't emulate or their MSX sets can't reproduce their voices starting with stupid arguments:

- I prefer native PSG.
- I prefer balancing menus.
- I prefer ... don't pay.

When these people says "I'm sceptical with the use of 2nd PSG" really are saying "I don't wanna pay".

The publisher offers you the game with a price. If you consider the game is good enough, buy. If not, then you don't buy. It's easy. You should not think if the hardware uses CPLD, FPGA or whatever or if the extra hardware add cost or not.

My talk about AY leveling was tech talk. There are games who have 1x SCC 1x AY. Then what to do.

The game was given away for free for some time already, and norakomi said he’s ok with it, so there’s no problem, is there? 9 years after the original release and with distribution ceased, I would be ok with it as well if it was my software.

Good point. Let us all write to Konami to tell them that Solid Snake requires some patches to run from disk. The game is far more than 9 years old, so they must listen to us and do what we ask. In the same mail we can tell them that non original Playstation games won't work unless we patch the Playstation.
