It's true! Here's a quick demonstration (sorry about my horrendous accent and stuttering):
OpenMSX 0.12 on a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro (60Hz)

Didn't change any video or audio settings. Runs equally fine on an external monitor.

OMG!

Sorry Parn. After I sent my answer I understood you meant:

- Your Mac isn't a faster machine.
- OpenMSX runs fine.

I misunderstood you. I thought you mean "openMSX performance isn't anything stellar, but it can run just fine."

My apologies.

You should hear my accent... ^^!

Ok ok... I understand your point. For you, playing, has not differences between real MSX and your Mac+emulator.
I would like you understand my point, as coder.
Anyway the performance on my Mac Mini its "slightly" different. ^^ But I don't want record a video. ^^!

By the way, you should add a
good keyboard to you Mac/MSX set. :hannibal:
(yes, I'm writing the answer with my 20P)

If you're interested, Ramones, we can try to find out what's causing openMSX to work so badly on your Mac.

@Ramones I'm sure that kind of keyboard would improve the emulation experience Big smile

Thanks Manuel. I think the problem it's a Graphics Card + OSX. A friend told me there was a problem with Vsync and SDL (with this machine + OSX + gfx card). But I have other emulators (other systems) that seems don't have this problem. :?

Anyway, with other machines I tested (more powerful, should runs "perfect"), the low accuracy its similar. With keyboard response (lag), when you are coding a simply blink effect... I can see slightly differences between openMSX (and blue/cocoa) and the real machine.

I'm a little surprised to be the only one who sees the inconvenience/annoyances/differences. OO! For you its exactly the same openMSX than your preferred MSX computer?

By the way... I never played with emulators. I'm waiting the day when emulators have a real and good CRT filter. Smile

XDDDDDDDD LOL! Yes. Really my target when I made this MSX printer port to USB Keyboard was use my loved HB 20P as keyboard. It's my first computer and I like this MSX keyboard. Smile

Of course, you can use for emulators ... at the end is a real USB keyboard. Smile

Of course there are differences. While developing and debugging using emulators, the differences are more evident as we focus on the details. When playing, differences are more subtle. You feel something strange. Maybe is keyboard lag, framerate not exactly the correct, ... there is something "strange" that makes you feel that the game is not what it should be. For example, the possibility of configuring the frame drop under emulation makes me feel... uncomfortable. Having to deal with sound buffer sizes too. I am sure that most users just don't tune these parameters properly. To the contrary, there is nothing to tune on MSX because... an MSX behaves like an MSX by default.

The problem with emulators, from the player's perspective, appears, in my opinion, when players are so used to emulators that they can't feel those differences. The point at which they believe that MSX is what they see under emulation, not being conscious of the differences between the real thing and the emulator.

There are more differences too. For example, I am sure that more than one emulator user believes that La Mulana (with MSX graphic set) is exactly like an MSX game. So, if this happens, developers could ask themselves: "why am I developing with so many constraints when I could create games in Java with old-style graphics and musics and nobody will notice the differences"

I agree. When I finished the hardware, the hipster blue tooth Apple keyboard was retired as you can see in the photo. Tongue

I must slightly disagree. I believe that the MSX in the picture has a very good keyboard, like many MSXs do. But IMO, the current Apple "hipster" keyboard is even better.

It's a matter of taste, of course. I'm used to these modern slim keyboards, and in this group, Apples is the best IMO. Mean, I've just haven't encountered better. It's so effortless to type.

Whatever, but speaking of latency / lag, it MUST be with cord. I've heard that NO hard core PC gamer uses WIRELESS kb or mouse.
