Oh, I am surprised that the MSX version has exactly the same problem. Thank Jipe for this remark.

@Valkyr

Thank you for your proposal.

Musical Memory Mapper has been tested on the following MSX:

- MSX1 Yashica YC-64
- MSX1 Toshiba HX-10DP (Japanese)
- MSX Turbo R A1-ST
- MSX Turbo R A1-GT

It will help me if you can test the cartridge on other MSX.

Please try the following games on MSX1, MSX2 and MSX2+ in first.
- Rock'n Bolt
- Safari Hunting
- Space Armor

Thereafter I will need to find different versions of listed games that do not work. I Worked on the most recent versions (16/32K in general).

What is this Musical Memory Mapper exactly? First time I heard of it. SN chip + sega-type memory mapper?

No, this is a MSX memory mapper + SN76489 chip. I translated the beginning of french documentation:

Quote:

The Musical Memory Mapper (MMM) cartridge is a standard memory extension of 1024KB for MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX Turbo R.

However, it has other features. A sound chip SN76489AN found in various game consoles of the 80s has been added. The aim is, among others, to run on MSX the console games that have this sound chip as main difference with the MSX. Softwares are provided to run games of the Sega SG-1000 and Colecovision. Thus the sound is identical to the original!

The Musical Memory Mapper also has a write protect function and the ability to manage its memory regardless of other Memory Mapper to make easier to launch MSX ROM images.

I hope this is understandable. I can run MSX-DOS 1/2 on my MSX1 with this cartridge and a Sunrise CF interface. Smile

Ah, thanks!

What I/O port is the SN chip on? Is there a way I can detect the cartridge? Is there a website for this cartridge, or some form of documentation online somewhere in English or another language?

Thanks Smile. I am already familiar with how the SN chip works, but what I need to know is I/O port to access it on in this Musical Memory Mapper cartridge (e.g. on Franky it is port 49H).

Also, the SN can’t be detected as it’s write-only, so I need to know which other characteristics of this Musical Memory Mapper cartridge I can use to detect it. Maybe I could use the write protect setting to detect it (but I don’t know how to enable it), or maybe there’s even some more convenient method.

That’s the kind of information I’m looking for Smile. Both out of interest for my Synthesix project as well as for the MSX Assembly Page (which already has the SN76489AN application manual on it, btw Smile).

Safari Hunting works perfect in: MSX1 Sony 20P, MSX2 Philips NMS8245 and TurboR ST (512k internal)
Rock'n Bolt works perfect in MSX1 Sony 20P but in 8245 and ST the game begins but with fails.
Space Armor works perfect in MSX1 Sony 20P but in 8245 and St the game begins but with fails.

Tested with Megaflash Scc+ Sd in slot 1 and Musical memory mapper in slot 2

When I tested SG2MSX.COM, the quasi totality of ROMs (95%) I found worked on MSX1 systems. Sure with some noise/sound bugs (sometime gfx bugs) but it was playables.
The same ROMs works at 80% on MSX2 systems (Philips 8235/45/55/80) and only 65% with my TurboR. I never tested with MSX2+.
I had also better results with BEER-IDE than SUNRISE-CF on MSX2 systems.
I can't explain these results, it's just "my report".

@gdx : where can I find the last version of SG1000.COM and/or the magic mapper Big smile

@Riquet
Your email is it "le_riquet[AT]live.fr"? I can give it to Popolon (fr). Otherwise I think Popolon will soon present its cartridge MRC. He waits for cartridge stickers. We'll have more information at that time.

I found wonderboy to be better than the MSX version. It's great to play these games.
