Hi guys,

Has anybody worked SVI-727 in MSX1 computer?

Is there some way to know if it works?

Is there some special software for this hardware?

A lot of thank for your comments,

Guseco LOL!

It only works with a special version of CP/M.

I got one too, any information on it? It has different vdp ports? So I can use it for a dual screen MSX? Cool

The 80 column card does not contain a normal VDP (so not a V9938), so it's not very usable outside of that special CP/M version.

It's not a special version of CP/M, but of MSX-DOS : MSXDOS17.DSK that contains the file MODE80.COM

From the blueMSX manual :

Quote:

- SVI-727
This 80 column card has only one ROM file and it only contains character data.

You need to
- put the SVI727.ROM in a cartridge slot
- insert in drive A a MSX-DOS disk with the file "MODE80.COM"
- start or reset the machine by pressing on F9 or F12
- type MODE80 on the MSX-DOS command line

The point was: it needs special software made for that card, BIOS or other software (that wants to program the video chip) can't handle it.

It has a HD6845SP vdp inside: http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/139476/HITACHI...

I can use it on my turbo-r as debug screen :p and I think this chip was used in amstrad cpc

http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/CRTC

http://datasheet.elcodis.com/pdf2/120/42/1204229/hd6845sp.pdf

So maybe I can run amstrad software on my MSX? Hehehe

Woaw, this is odd. I always assumed it had a V9938 inside since the SVI-738 Xpress had one in for it's 80 Columns mode.

How is this thing working anyway? Does it have its own (V)RAM? Are the 80 columns software that support it different from the ones working on the Xpress?
