When I hook my hit bit onto a new tv through scart I get horrible screen flicker
I have tried different cables and have posted a thread on my Twitter to explain.
Can anyone help?

There are several things happening.

  1. The blue wash seen on the first TV is very common in the HB75, see for example this thread.
  2. Modern(ish) TVs don’t have great capabilities in handling low resolution images from our computers.

The flickering (I believe) is caused by the TV trying to correct the level of the input voltages. Due to the blue wash the actual black level (or 0) is not as low as it should be. The TV seems to correct that (and it shows actually decent black unlike the older TV). But because of this the sync pulses seem to be missed and that causes the picture to jump. All this happens in the analog to digital conversion, required to display on the digital display.

Probably the ony thing to do is get a SCART to HDMI converter. RetroTink and OSSC are great options but are costly. Getting an MSX2 machine with SCART might be a better option, image quality will definitely be better than the HB75 and game support is also better.

The MSX2 machines have very good RGB quality output. Your TV will be able to digitize that signal much better. RetroTink and OSSC will still have beter digitization and scaling but that comes at a cost.

Oh thank you so much.
That’s so helpful and provides the information I needed.
I actually got a scart to hdmi converter but it didn’t help.
I have an older tv at my mums place so will try that.
Failing that, I may need to invest in an msx 2 ????????????
Thank you again buddy.
This has been bugging me for literally years!
