I had the same problem.
Solved patching the rom taken from TFH.
the [1526] version
tested on bluemsx and openmsx

Sorry for any confusion! I think that particular rom was chosen because it's the first one that comes up when Googling the game, even though it's not the original rip. But it makes sense that would cause some confusion, especially for people who know MSX games really well and only typically use unmodified original roms.

Hopefully nobody has any other issues with the game (we tested it pretty thoroughly, though, so I don't think you will once you get it up and running!). If anyone does, please let us know!

I made IPS patches to apply to the original version (crc32=4FACCAE0) and the mapper remains 8K ASCII.

Would be great if the official patch (on the website) would also be against the original ROM. In the meantime, I'll try gdx's patch, thanks!

EDIT: hmm, gdx, the patched game hangs up just when it starts the intro demo.
I'm using the goodMSX dump: 176ec8e65a9fdbf59edc245b9e8388cc94195db9 Mitsumega Toohru (1989) (Natsume) (J).rom

It might be the change of mapper. That was intentional on Moldov's part, as there's more text data in the English version than there was in the Japanese version, so more space was required in the rom. May be best to leave it as the Konami mapper.

Sorry I had missed addresses. These versions should work.

gbx, thanks for pointing this. And thanks that you found that issue. There are some more things revealed:)

But to go further, I would explain my point.

This patch is my first experience with MSX and Z80.

Regarding the mapper - yes, the ROM which was used for patch development was taken from the "first available link" and after some time I spent with ROM and got the information about MSX mappers, I was a bit surprised that NATSUME decided to use KONAMI named mapper. It shouldn't be like that as per licencing for sure. But I assumed that KONAMI mapper was kinda common stuff by that age and just took it as it is and continued hacking the game.

Then later I found that one more mapper exists - ASCII. But being not so familiar with the mappers by that time, I decided to continue to hack KONAMI mapped ROM.

And assuming now, that KONAMI mapper was used to be able to play with some SCC RAM mappers or something like that. As far as I understood, KONAMI mappers were used before flash carts to be able to play the games on kind of hand made RAM carts with different KONAMI mappers.

And having all that...

Quote:

I found the ROM with the CRC32: 4F70C1F9 is not the original but a Korean hacked version.

looks like "3 Lie-Mon" should somehow be related to Korean naming of that particular game.

On our project's web site I posted the following:

Quote:

And often the name of the rom would be followed by the words "3 Lie-Mon," too. If anyone knows what "3 Lie-Mon" means, I'd be really interested to find out!

Guys, I'm pretty sure we have Korean hard fans of MSX and Sharaku. Please give me a clue:))) That's one more Sharaku's mistery which I want to be resolved:)

Tom,

there shouldn't be a big difference between ASCII and KONAMI mappers. Not getting into complex details it just a bit different and as gdx done very good job to adopt the patch vs original mapper, I would post both version on the server (with explanation which is which) to satisfy any guys who wants to play it.

I'll do that very soon.

And thanks everyone for a very interesting discussionSmile) I like to see all those small details revealing. That's awesome.

P.S. there is actually one more version exist - DSK version with ASCII mapper and MSXDOS loader. But it's not common and I will ignore it.

You used the other version, right? The one you quoted is the one that doesn't work, so I just wanted to make sure you used the updated one that properly adjusted the addresses.
