Won't work. Music Module is ADPCM and Moonsound is PCM. There's been a topic about the exact opposite a while ago. This might illustrate that it's nothing straight forward.

If I were you, I'd record the samples in openMSX, cut them in a sample editor, save them and use wav2mtn to get them into mbwave.

Be aware that you want to use quite inferior quality samples on quite a powerful soundcard.

Yes, the topic Meits posted is a very good starting point if you plan to do ADPCM <-> PCM conversions. If you look carefully you can actually find tools for converting both ways, but the idea Meits suggested may actually be much more convinient.

Well... I would not say that... this is not quite that black'n white although 100% correct in case we restrict the conversation & interpretation of question strictly to different Moonblaster versions... If you want to use Music Module to record PCM samples for Moonsound, you can actually do that...

Music Module internally first does A/D conversion to 8bit PCM. This is then multiplied by 256 and converted to 4bit ADPCM before writing to sample RAM. Due to this process it is possible to capture the 8bit PCM result directly from between using CPU and then store it for later use. How ever this is a bit tricky as you still need to first trigger the A/D conversion using the sample timer and then sync your sample reads. I'm pretty sure I've seen a program in ancient past that was able to do this although name has slipped from my mind during the last 30 years. (Maybe FM-sampler?)

How ever as in reality I think you were looking a way to convert already recorded Moonblaster 1.4 samples, thinking this unlikely adds any value.

Thank you very much for your information Meits and NYYRIKKI. I Will go check out both programs
I found I prog called fm-fac sampler, maybe that is what you mean NYYRIKKI?

What my main goal is, is to make Music in MB Wave on my 8280,while searching New sounds that fit in, record them on my 8235 and use them immediatly in my song on my 8280.
This way I could producer Music only using MSX.

Right now I use audacity on a PC to make 8 BiT samples for use with my opl4 shockwave. Works fine, but I have to use a pc and cannot do it all in one box if I would like to...

No... Or maybe it even is... or maybe I meant PSG-sampler... my memory does not seem to serve me well... My best guess was FM-sampler that I found from Genic Clubguide 3 & 5 but this was not it... Actually looking at the demo samples this also saves in correct format (8bit PCM) but it splits the samples to 16kB files and adds 7-byte BIN-header to them...

To be honest I don't want to get your hopes too much up... The only thing that I remember about the software is that there was an option to select if you want to record PCM or ADPCM and the thing why I remember this is because I was like "Oh, Music Module can do PCM as well, cool"... I don't think I even had music module at that time, so I have no idea what kind of memory limitations it may have had, what kind of file formats it may have supported or things like that. I loaded the program only because it was on a loose disk that I traded from somewhere (This was time before internet) I guess the disk was reused for other purposes after that. Smile

Let's hope someone else can help to figure out what I'm talking about or give better suggestions.

It is a noble goal, but definitely not the most easy way to go... Not only the sampling, memory and file format troubles, but then you would probably like to have some reasonable way to edit or at least cut the samples and adjust volume as well... As programming exercise this would sound like a nice project for someone, but as end user experience for music making... not that much.

It is Alex Wulms (Xelasoft) his super music editor that has the conversion features build-in.

Is there anybody except Alex who still has it? If Alex is around and reads this, would it be an idea to submit it as a download? I've never seen the tool used except for the demo tunes by Andries that came with the demo of the program.
I might finally be used Smile

Well I read there are 3 version of this software. Anyone know it was any good?

I think it would be best if there would be a moonsound with audio input and output instead more clones of the cartridge..
And some application for sampling 8 BiT PCM. Or an adapted version of MB Wave with sampling option Big smile
MSX can be a very powerfull Music production machine!

It adds to the "stay true" feeling, but since 1995 those samples were done on a PC, so it's allowed to still do Wink

Yes think you are right, but I imagine my 8280 with a moonsound I/O with midi support... It would be a powerfull 8 BiT graphical, video, audio workstation!

I guess I have to use moonblaster 1.4 if I wanna do it all in the box then... Still a great program, but only one sample at the time is a little small.

There is a copy of release 3.0 on the MCCM millennium CD’s (which are available for download, if anyone can’t find them send me a PM)
