How to connect my MSX to the internet when I'm on the road?!

Sooooo, my MSX has a wired RJ45 connector (GR8NET). When I take this computer on the road to, for example, some meeting, I of course want to get online with the MSX. But how do I do that?

I always have my mobile phone with me, so I can make a hotspot that acts as a WIFI access point, right?

Then, HOW do I let the RJ45 wired MSX use this WIFI connection?

It's the other way around than with a WIFI router, right? A WIFI router is connected to the internet through a wired connection and then sends and receives data wireless.

Somewhere I've read I should make a 'Bridge', but is it possible? What hardware do I need? I opt for the most mobile solution, so preferably not take a router on the road, but only some kind of adapter?

To be honest, I thought of USB tethering internet from my phone, so I bought this cheap 'mircrousb<>RJ45' adapter and simply plugged it in the phone on one side and in the MSX on the other side, but no success. The mobile phone didn't say there was a USB connection, so I could not activate USB tethering....

I have a router, which you can set as WIFI client. That means that the WIFI act like a client, you have to fill-in the SSID and password etc. in the router. Which you connect to an other Wifi hotspot, like your mobile. The RJ45 on the router is just forwarding the data to the router. So your MSX just get a DHCP from the Wifi Hotspot. This how i do it in Nijmegen as well. I use my Phone to have the internet connection, or i use the public Wifi. it is indeed a kind of a bridge. (I use a old LinkSys router using DDWRT, which is high configurable for things like this. It works well for me.

Something like the 300Mbps Wireless N Nano Router TL-WR802N would probably work. :)

Looks mobile enough! But can it act as a wifi client? As a bridge?

I remember they use to make a wifi to rj45 unit for the original xbox. You just plug it into the computer or xbox and set the ssid and password. Then bam internet connection.

I actually use that device with my GR8NET, however I have a dumb 4 port switch in between so I can share that wifi client with other things at the same time. I did use it direct in the beginning.

With WiFi, I found dhcp to not respond quickly enough for GR8NET, (intermittent issue) so I configured static addressing. Sometimes I didn't need to, and dhcp just worked.

I got the router and it gets powered by a 5v microusb input. Is it possible to use the 5v from the msx joystick port or a cartridge slot? Does such a cable exist?

The joystickport can only provide 50mA, the cartridgeslot 300mA. The TP-Link needs a 1A supply, so I think you are better off with a phone charger or other USB power supply.
