I woke up rather early and thought I would try and translate a Spanish copy of an English language MSX book I had been looking for, for some time.

The book is MSX Machine Code by Steve Webb. I used Foxit Phantom PDF to OCR the text, then Google translate to get it into English.

The document is up on Google Docs. It needs a lot of work to get it into shape, and I was wondering if anybody would be interested in helping me format it? Send me a PM if you are able to help.

Wow, that's a lot of work I'm looking at. Practically the whole book needs to be rewritten, as Google Translate makes a poor job of it.
I can do a few pages, but since I'm not a native English speaker I doubt it'll be worth it. Translating to Dutch, though, could be a possibility, although there are excellent books on the subject available, and I doubt it'll get a big audience.

Still, I wish you all the best with this project. I hope some native English speakers can help you out.

To get the PDF file, use the Print option combined with PDF Creator !

What point are you trying to make? Oys only read only to stop that version being edited. Anyone can download the PDF version.

Your maybe missing the point of collaboration?

Even without a Download option, I can get the PDF file, that's my point.

Actually, it works also with the Downlad option 'hidden" under Files. The result is even better than with PDF Creator.

Actually, I didn't first have seen this option. My intention is not to edit/modify the file !

I think your missing the point. I know anyone can download it thats the point. But to edit it you need rights. Thats the point of the collaboration options in google docs.

Someone offers to help snd I give them edit rights.

It looks interesting! I may even learn something from this book. I couldn't view the English text at all, but Google has probably made a mess of it. I've just been looking at the Spanish version. I haven't studied all that much Spanish, but I seem to understand nearly all of this book from what I have studied, as well as my knowledge of French and Italian and recently reading the Spanish magazine INPUT MSX. I'm fairly sure I could translate this book. What about the author Steve Webb, though?

Hi,

Not sure why you could not read the English text. What was the problem? I could read most of the text, as I said it does need tidying up.

I'm pretty sure the author would not mind, especially as it was written 30 years ago and no money is changing hands. I am trying to make contact though.

There is another machine code book I have but it is written by someone who is now high up at Microsoft, and am contacting him too.

To my mind the existing assembly code tutorials out there are far out of the reach of beginners.

If you want to help me I can send you the document as Microsoft Word, Rich Text or OpenOffice format.

I got the frequent error about a script on this page under Firefox, but now I've found I can read it in Apple Safari. One problem was that the first few pages after the title page were blank. I've only just started reading it, but it's quite likely that the machine translation has too many mistakes to count them. It would be better for me to translate the Spanish version back into English. You can send me the machine translation as an OpenOffice format document if you want to.
