Hello all!
Since I'm not going to use the internal software of the Philips Music Module, what chip do I must remove to not load the music program?? Any schematics or easy indication?
thank you very much!

I agree that that trashy program is just a major nuisance these days, but removing only that might not be easy or even possible without replacing the whole ROM. This expansion by SuperSoniqs will rid you of it for sure. I guess you already knew that you can also skip it at bootup by holding down Esc? :)

As far as I remember, it was a ROM in a socket near the Y8950. I removed the IC and done!

A discussion at Philips sometime in the eighties:
"Should we add a little switch to disable the autobooting composing program?"
"Are you kidding? No way!"

A guy from around here had a music module with a custom made switch for that...
He also had a second switch... One to toggle the 256kB sample RAM on/off... Indeed: oO

Just thinking whether that ROM removal will have some adverse effects on programs using the BASIC commands or detecting the extension in some funky way. Would a simple switch to the chip select leg of the ROM do?

You can even replace the ROM with for instance DOS 2 rom.
