You're right about the lack of bass in the real Moonsound. I turned my equalizer to nuetral to get the sound as clean as it gets... Soundwise openMSX comes closest where blueMSX has a softer tone...
I had it totally wrong with your recordings... That's weird, because what I claimed to be your blueMSX recording suffered the same as my blueMSX recording...

Not really surprizing, it corresponds to my personal feeling and as end-users can still adjust the final result on real MSX or on real PC/Mac/... (with equalizer for example), it's finally a question of personal appreciation, especially for MoonSound, for which the differences between emulators are very subtle.
It does not mean that emulation is perfect : as Yzi has mentioned it, timing problems can produce unexpected results.
The timing problem might be due to some intermediate buffer being too large in my particular XXX emulator version and configuration, and if new sample note-ons are started at exact buffer boundaries, it causes timing jitter. Or maybe there's a vsync issue between 50hz/60hz? I don't know. But anyway, it is _very_ annoying, and actually I don't even have to concentrate on it. I can't listen to it even as background music, it's so irritating. It's like, "what is WRONG with these guys, their timing SUCKS... oh, it's a machine..."
(edit: censored the emulator name)
So, what do Jorito and snout think, who wrote the comments mars originally posted?
4f427 is distorted and doesn't sound right.
I think there might have been something a little bit off with that one. If there were equalizers in the signal path, then maybe they weren't so clean? I wonder if there was even a low-cut filter? I'm not a super expert, but I've read somewhere that most analog EQs do something to the signal even in the so-called neutral position.
everything set to nuetral here... must've been your latest suggestion...
Actually that's part of the reason why I recorded the emulators from the Mac mini's line out to the AudioFire 8 instead of pure digital export. If the input was doing something to the MoonSound's signal, then I hoped it would do approximately the same thing to the emulators as well. Of course the output impedance and level of the MoonSound must be different from the Mac min's, so it can't completely equal. Even the emulators had surprisingly different output levels, so I had to even them out.
