Where's Magical Tree? Tongue
Not counting the good memories and nostalgia, I voted for Maze of Galious instead.

Treasure of Usas because it's so original and has one of the best 8-bit soundtracks ever.

Maze of Galious of course because of the nostalgia and the sense of wonder and awe when exploring the castle. It feels a lot more free and exciting than most of the other platforms even on any other computer or console. Nothing beats the feeling to track down all those items at several nice and gloomy locations within the castle.

For a 'platform' game I would say The Treasure of Usas; from the games mentioned I think it is the game with the best graphics, music and gameplay. What depends on gameplay -and that is what I think what makes a good platform game- Goonies and Vampire Killer are great also.

It's both platform and puzzle, so why not?
Contra is also more shooter than platform.

Maze of Galious. Days of exploration that really kept my attention. Personally I'd not imagine The Goonies below Contra in the rank. Contra is one of the few Konami MSX games that I don't like to play.

King's Valley 2 is the only one of the mentioned games that I finished without cheating. Like javilevel, King's Valley 2 is for me more a puzzle game than a platform game, although the first King's Valley has more emphasis on the platform elements.

I think I spent the most hours on Maze of Galious. It has a very nice mix of free exploring in the castle and linear progress in the worlds. I remember drawing a map of the castle and then seeing that the castle actually had a castle shape as well.

Although Usas is very pretty and has good music, the game play never really worked for me. I always got so frustrated after a while that I stopped playing and therefore never got far in this game.

I think the key difference between KV1/2 and the other platform games is that the other games are platform adventures, while KV1/2 are puzzles using platform gameplay - which makes it a platform game.

MOG by far. Exploring the dark corners of the castle to get that needed item, slaying hundreds of enemies, collect them coins and arrows, slaying the very, very, very breathtaking bosses. I'm still in awe with MOG. How can it not be the best platformer ever!?

I agree with Ro too. MOG was such a good game that its spirit was reproduced in Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

But if I must I will go for the Maze of Galious as i've got some very nice memories playing it Wink

Vampire Killer was the first screen 5 Konami game that I ever played. I voted it. I love Usas too, of course. And I don't understand why Hinotori is not in the list? It's my second favorite after Vampire Killer.

MOG for its castle, music, enemies, bosses, items...

It's hard but, can you find anything that could be improved in MOG?
Sure adding the ability to save the game instead of using the long passwords, but what esle?

Hard choice but I choose Vampire Killer over MOG. Though technically and maybe even gameplay-wise MOG ranks higer in my list and being a MSX1 game, I find myself playing Vampire Killer more often than MOG. It's just a bit more accessible for me. Considering Vampire Killer was released in 1986 as the first MSX2 Konami (if my memory seves me well) with such great graphics, gameplay and great music, it deserves my vote.

Usas is a great game too, but gameplay wise to repetitive to me. Never found it inspiring enough to finish it until a few year ago (and cheating like hell to achieve it too Wink)

Same here. I never got myself to play it longer than 15 minutes.
King's Valley 2 on the other hand is one of the best (if not the best) puzzle plat-formers known to mankind. I played the game for hours and hours in my childhood.

You might be an Usas person, but Uşas was the first MSX cart I owned, bought together with Metal Gear, both on a Tilburg fair (1994, I think). At that time, I had never played any of these two games before.

However, MoG is the first MSX cartridge game I ever played (that was in 1989 I think). And I played it for hundreds and hundreds of hours, I think. Oh yeah... As they say: Best. Game. Ever.

Must say I found it totally awesome when I managed to make the first boss appear in MoG.
But after beating that one, somehow I just didn't feel like playing it further much. Ofcourse that's most certainly not because there'd be something wrong with the game, since nothing is, really. Smile

About the 1st boss of MOG... I was too young when I first got MOG and I didn't have a clue about the password system; I've killed that boss more than any other boss of any other game. I remember pluging the computer just for 10 minutes break, making the run through the first world, killing the giant skeleton and closing the computer totally satisfied. Awesome!
