And as for: when is snout a snout and when is rikusu a rikusu: give me a situation in which this really matters. In all the years -right from the start- it never bothered me one bit who is who and when/where. I had a question about woomb: I query snout on irc. I had a question about MRC: I query snout on irc. We can go through all the trouble to setup different usernames, different emails, different irc channels for all I care, but please: there's nothing wrong with using common sense. Why would you be bothered about the whole who-is-what in the first place? You state that commercial companies don't bother making a fuss anymore, why would you? You know what I do? Nothing, I just create MSX stuff now and then, that's far more productive than playing Sherlock all the time.. Hannibal

There's a difference between a product (like an emu which has or may have some ROM files, a game with some ripped graphics etc.) and a website which purely serves as warezheaven and nothing else. That difference is where we draw the line, you may like it or not, but that's not our problem.

Quote from the policy:

4.2 Members using the forums on the MRC website must agree to abide by the following rules:

* The posting of offensive content is not allowed
* The posting of illegal content is not allowed
* The posting of copyrighted content is not allowed
* The posting of links to the above is not allowed
* The soliciting of the above is not allowed

And sorry, it is YOUR problem and you draw the line in practice not according your own policy!

I maintain for more than 10 years a website with enormous and valuable amount of info and spent far more time and money creating the content on that website than posting and reading on the MRC (see my post count versus yours?) So thats what I do and that is productive. So dont start with that offtopic and personal kind of arguments.

Then you got the wrong idea of my line: all the time spent playing Sherlock could've been spent on something more useful.

So you do intend to make it a personal attack .. Fine with me, have fun with it.

Sigh.. indeed the same discussion over and over again.

While it's really simple and understandable, unless you don't WANT to understand it. If there is enough MSX news value, we report about it as we are first and foremost an MSX news website. If it's just blatant violation of copyright there is no place for it on MRC. Yes, there sometimes is some friction there, but that a remake or emulator with sysroms are in a whole different ballpark than just hosting thousands of copyrighted MSX software titles is abundantly clear. As on what to allow and not to allow on our forums and on what to report and not to report about: that's to the MRC's crew discretion and MRC's crew discretion only as that is where the responsibility for the website's content lies. There are plenty of other places to hang around for those in need of more warez-action. MRC is not one of them.

As for drawing a line and not completely strictly following it: compare it to speed limits. If you drive 53km/h in an area where 50km/h is max. you will never get a fine. If, however, you pass there at 160km/h you most certainly will lose your drivers license. Between that, there's a huge variety of different possibilities. You want the same analogy with stealing a Mars(2000) bar vs. stealing the contents of a complete warehouse with millions worth of nifty electronic devices? Just let me know... Tongue That said, reporting about something that infringes copyright or is otherwise illegal is by no means the same as actually infringing copyright. You read the news papers, right? Nuff said.

Last but not least: no, it is not OUR problem. We're fine with it, really.

No I do not, *sigh*. I rarely intend to attack people btw, give or take 1 or 2 exceptions (who asked for it, btw). I rather think there may be a language/communication issue involved here. But as I don't exactly know how to bring it in any other way, I'll leave the subject for what it is. (ps. feel free to hit me on irc, just in case .. Smile)

And as for me, I was just having an interesting conversation about copyrights (as I am a Master of Law (well, at least - almost) I tend to take personal interest in these matters).

I think snout has already clearly explained how MRC works. As for me, I just tried to shed some light on WHY copyrights exist and WHY I think they deserve to be respected. I just think that if you create something, only you have the right to decide what happens with your creation, not a group of people who'd rather want to get their hands on the creation for free. And fact is, that in the current MSX scene, it just doesn't make sense anymore to say the games have been abandoned by the developers.

What I find most disturbing is that instead of programming for many years MSX seems to be turned into a juridical game and that is hurray news.
