A new slot expander by Tecnobytes has just come out, this is their latest hardware development still warm from the oven. The Brazilian team, well-known for their excellent products such as MSX-AUDIO AudioWave, V9990 Powergraph Light, or OPL4 Shockwave, decided to make an upgraded version of their previous slot expander. This time the main improvement is the volume control for each slot. The features are as follows:

  • 4 expanded slots that can fit even large cartridges
  • 35 cm buffered flat cable
  • Exclusive plastic cabinet (in development)
  • 5V external power supply (included)
  • You can easily disable a slot (you don't have to remove the cartridge). Each slot has one key and one information LED
  • "DC IN" Status LED: The main board and the cartridges are protected against incorrect voltages (low or high), any problem with the power supply, even if you forgot to connect one. The DC IN Status Led will blink in any of those cases
  • High quality board
  • Control volume individually per slot

The price is USD 128,00 plus USD 38 for shipment worldwide.

Guys, sometimes things go wrong, especially in these pandemic times. I'm not Tecnobytes, but I tried to help my friend Rogério sort out misunderstandings and explain what has been happening. A somewhat frustrating problem is that sometimes someone complains here, but there's no obvious way to connect their MRC username with their real name or whatever they first used when they first ordered their product.

So if you are having trouble with anything Tecnobytes-related, try talking to them. Tell them your real name and your MRC username, if you have multiple e-mail accounts, if you have changed your address, what country you're from. Every bit of info helps them find your case quicklier. Help them help you. And don't ever assume rudeness or bad will, since none of us are native English speakers and tone is easily lost in translation.

I've seen firsthand how much Rogério takes these issues seriously and how much effort he puts into solving them, sometimes even with personal loss.

I don’t know Rogerio personally (I live on the other side of the world Wink) or the team behind Tecnobytes. I have ordered from them during the pandemic and chip shortage time and I am pleased with the products. We ran into issues with new regulations regarding export but everything was handled in the end.

Yeah, I understand about English being not a first language. But when communication just stops, no reply at all, after I have paid $160 some dollars, it's a bit hard to say: let me purchase something else.

That said, I am convinced people here are good folks, not wanting to scam anyone. I will reach out and I'm hopeful we can get this resolved, no hard feelings.

I know what the problem is, according to what they tell me they have the following problem:
"Please note that the included screw is a bit made of weak metal. Screws that need to be screwed into the motherboard need a large screwdriver head."

It has only been 3 months since they asked for reservations, things in the msx world can take months before they are ready, I'm not expecting my expander anytime soon.

If you commit to a date, meet it or warn that you will fail for whatever reason before you are asked, it is not just the device you are selling, but the person behind the deal, and this is very important to me , and I can understand that for other people it is not, I simply ask for respect for a deal, if the seller does not understand it then I made a mistake in the purchase.

Any way to get in touch with tecnobytes ? Trying to get in touch with them. But no reaction to the emails what so ever. Ordered 3 slotexpanders but they give me the silent treatment.
A bit disappointed.

I wrote to them 2 weeks ago and they replied that mine would be sent on April 3rd. No tracking numbers to date

It’s quite normal for some delay in e-mail response for TechnoBytes. Remember it’s just a hobby and they have regular jobs and lives and are really just doing us a great favor. Ultimately you will get some response and you will get your slot expanders. I ordered 2 and have no tracking yet either (but I also have no idea what my position in the queue is).

I just want to say i never had issues with Technobytes, long waiting for me is just okay, as I understand sometimes it costs time to developing and assembling things. Especially when chips are rare etc. For example, I ordered a spectrum Next ( Not from technobytes btw) but that one took also some years to deliver… All i want to say, just wait and in the end you probably get a very nice piece of hardware which you would enjoy! I use the old slot expansion from technobytes and i am really happy with it, i use it daily and it works very well…. If you have issues just contact them directly.

Got feedback from Tecnobytes that the slotexpanders are shipping next week.
And there apologise for the inconvenience that there is a big delay.
The shipping rules have changed and they needed to set up a shipping manifest, so i was asked for my drivers licence number. So I gave it and the slotexpanders will be on there way.
