AX370 modifications

At least the AX370 has the empty sockets; so after identifying the right ROM set the replacement could be an easy task. Said that, in the Wavy 70FD dedicated page, the differences between FD and FD2 are shown, no idea about the ROM ICs tho. Seems that the FD2 has a bigger ROM due Kanji support.

The FD1/AX3700 seems to be at least a 256K one.

Ok, i did:

copy /b 1_MSX2P.ROM+2_MSX2PEXT.ROM+22_MSX2PMUS.ROM+3_DISK.ROM+4_MSXKANJI.ROM+5_KANJI.ROM+6_BASICKUN.ROM out.rom

I used roms from Wavy70fd rom pack and it nearly work. I don't see MSX logo and FDD doesnt work (tested also ax370 disk rom - same result). MSX2plus basic starts ok, i can use kanji chars. Should i do something more to have FDD working?

I have SD512 and it starts to Nextor without problem.

The issue is likely the AX370 does have slot 0 expanded usually, so what you can do is use saver to dump slots 0-1 to 0-3 and see what is in there, and find those in your concatenated ROM.

You can probably move the disk ROM into slot 0-1 for example but the FDC registers are probably not going to move automatically as well. You could also move Kanji rom to 0-1 (you may loose the boot logo but it can be recovered by fixing the sub rom, although we will need help to do it). If you then put the disk ROM into the location of the Kanji ROM (in your concatenation) the disk drive will work again. You may have to use some padding (empty 00’s for 16kB/32kB) here and there.

It’s a bit of a puzzle but enjoyable

I am picking one up in the next few days but I have a question, was the AX-370 PAL or NTSC and what power does it need?

I am scared of getting one and plugging it here in Germany and completely frying it.
