With Chrome you can Right-click it and do a "Save As'".

It is normal Browser protocol, nothing special. Are you using Windows with Edge browser? (default, works)

Well, since a few months, it's giving problems in Chrome. Don't know why though. Clicking it doesn't initiate the download. "Save As"' does work though.

/edit/
Had a closer look: It get blocked due to "Mixed content".

Quote:

Google Chrome will “gradually” block non-HTTPS downloads started on secure pages (mixed content downloads) starting from June 2020, and will eventually block all mixed content downloads by October 2020, it announced in a blog post on February 6.

Even with the "Save As" method, the download get's blocked and you have to instruct Chrome to keep the file.

It's quite weird though, as the link does seem secure...

Works on Chromium (87) for me. Although: the download links as published redirect to a final/actual http URL/location, which in turn I believe gets upgraded to a https request due to the browser's Upgrade-Insecure-Requests: 1 request header (which I believe both browsers should send by default)*

So if the tech admins fix the redirect, pointing to https instead of http, I think that should fix the issue.

* I believe IE doesn't support/send the header.. @Willem: what browser were you using?

Well, I do need to do "Save As" on the normal Chrome (v88) on a standard Windows 10 machine and Chrome is running on it's standard settings.

Hmm, that issue might be actually something else.. I didn't try a completely vanilla browser profile. Simply nothing happens when you click the link? Could it be somehow related to VigLink or something? What if you try with JavaScript disabled? (Via padlock in location bar -> site settings -> JavaScript:Block, Reload.)

Otherwise: any error messages or warnings in the console (F12)?

(I do get a 'This type of file can harm your computer [...]' Keep/Discard message btw.)

No, it's the same issue. When clicking it, simply blocks it. Checking the Chrome console gives me:

Quote:

Mixed Content: The site at 'https://www.msx.org/' was loaded over a secure connection, but the file at 'https://www.msx.org/sites/default/files/downloads/games/arcade/BETYLIFE.LZH' was redirected through an insecure connection. This file should be served over HTTPS. This download has been blocked. See https://blog.chromium.org/2020/02/protecting-users-from-inse... for more details

Ah, yes, that explains the differences between 87 & 88 Smile

Quote:

In Chrome 87 (released November 2020):
Chrome will warn on mixed content downloads of images, audio, video, and text.
Chrome will block all other mixed content downloads.

In Chrome 88 (released January 2021) and beyond, Chrome will block all mixed content downloads.

(Although, I tried a .lzh download, which falls into the 'other' category already...)

So it seems the issue does lie in what I described above. Though it does seem the server honors the Upgrade-Insecure-Requests: 1... I'm not sure if Chrome 88 is too strict in it's implementation now Smile OTOH: this is a site flaw: the https scheme for the redirect location URL should be used. The server is sending a Strict-Transport-Security header as well (perhaps if it wouldn't, it would still work? Smile)

I'll try Chromium 88 when I get to it.

btw: of course still strange right click does work.. Perhaps it then bypasses the security headers from the document? I figure passing the dl URL directly into the location bar works as well?
