Waoooh... what a great job!

Here is some (noob) questions about MSXUSB.
- Is RookieDrive NX the only available hardware to use MSXUSB? RookieDrive still available? (my electronic skills are far too bad to hope building any hardware by myself)
- Can we use USB keyboard/gamepad in games? I mean, already released games. At least for DOS/Basic ones?
- Can we use MSXUSB like a Nowind? I mean, allow the MSX to access files on a PC host through USB
- Do you have a list of supported USB hardware?

Hi all,

I've just finished assembling and testing my Omega system.

I'd planned to primarily rely on my also-just-assembled MSX-USB CPLD board as my "disk". However, I've hit a bit of a catch-22 in that I don't have an MSX-DOS disk system (no floppy, no IDE, no SD mapper) to be able to load up and use FLASH.COM and because of the mapper arrangement I can't easily flash the nextor_complete ROM using my minipro/TL866II+ programmer.

I can see this is something @popolon_ was asking about some pages back (whether anybody can provide a straight binary dump of their 4Mbit flash chip) but it looks like he might have ultimately just used FLASH.COM himself.

Is anybody able to dump their flash for me to program onto my own SST/AM chip?

For anyone who wants to test if your custom mapper does things in the order you expect I have created a mapper tester.
You can download the 128kb SCC mapper compatible ROM file here.

If all goes well the output looks like this:

If you get another order after flashing your ROM your mapper does not work with sequential segments. In other words when you select segment 0 you get 4, etc. This could be because the higher address lines that address the segments or not in the sequential order we would expect. It could be mirrored or flipped.

P.S. this is best visible when flashing on a separate programmer and then booting on the MSX.
P.S.2 you can find the code on my GitHub to make it compatible with ASCII8 or 16 if you want. Compile with sjasmplus.

MSXUSB PCB issue solved.

While working with gaduke on his MSXUSB build I checked what was causing his problems. The ROM mapper somehow was stuck on segment 0. The above tester ROM showed for every bank segment 0.

Then I remembered that in an earlier revision of the PCB I added a botch wire to solve similar issues. Then I got thinking. I had my new KiCAD design files on GitHub. But had I generated new Gerbers? I found out I had not.

So if you are still planning building a MSXUSB then make sure you are downloading v1.0. This is mentioned on the silkscreen. If you have the older CPLD version you can fix your PCB by added a botch wire as shown here:

I am sorry if you got stuck in your own build because of this.

I didn't see this post. Will this cartridge allow me to use PC keyboard and be able to type on it on my MSX 2? How much doe it cost? Will it come inside a cartridge case? Where can I buy it?

I think contact info here should work https://rookiedrive.com/en/buy/ (it's how I bought RookieDrive NX anyhow)

To answer the rest:
I did use it to type on an MSX 2 (Sony HB-F1XD) using a PC USB keyboard.
I don't know the current price and availability, contact @Xavirompe using the email on that website to find out. Prices listed on the website seem to include shipping and are exactly what I paid last year. Last year it was 50 euros not including the 15 euros shipping to the US, but I know components have become more expensive since then so I won't be surprised if it gets more expensive as a result.
The one I bought came in a beautiful cartridge case with a nice label on it. It looks like an Overrich case but with an opening for the USB connector.
