The Raspberry Pi Zero (for $5) is usable for it ?

By the way, can we now also play LD games on the Pioneer PX-7 UK version, which is PAL?

Thanks guys !

Here are some answers:

The Raspberry can output PAL, you just need to edit boot/config.txt

sdtv_mode=0    Normal NTSC
sdtv_mode=1 Japanese version of NTSC – no pedestal
sdtv_mode=2    Normal PAL
sdtv_mode=3    Brazilian version of PAL

Tried that here, it's real PAL & 50Hz (black borders & grey MSX display proves it):

So it should work "out of the box". Maybe the video could be transcoded to 50Hz for sync & performance sake.

PiLD need two full-speed threads (one for listening to the MSX, the other to decode OGV video), and composite output that the MSX can mix. The PiZero seems single-CPU and HDMI only, so this does not look easy (but I must say that $5 is an incredible bargain !).

Let me know if you go for it, I'll provide you the installation instructions & wiring (dont' want to make it completely public yet). Or we could give your PX-7 a try at Nijmegen if you bring it with you Smile ?

?? Not sure to completely understand. You have all those machines linked through video super-impose Smile ??

Anyway, support for the NMS8280 & HBF9B will require more work:

  • Right channel sound needs to go to the casette port.
  • Commands sent from the MSX to the LD need to be redirected too (maybe the casette port too ??).

That kind of involves rewriting a modified Palcom BASIC/BIOS ROM. Not straightforward but doable (at least if the LD games do not use direct port access).
