MSX Turbo-R Technical Handbook scanned

Some years ago the MSX Datapack was scanned by Dioniso and published by Konamito. This time Takamichi Suzukawa took the burden to scan the entire MSX Turbo-R Technical Handbook and publish it.

If you have good knowledge of the Japanese language, this might be an invaluable source of information. Note that the document is rather large (118MB).

I bought that book from Takamichi and he did the scans before sending the book to me.

@ sd_snatcher: I'd like to know WHO did authorize you to make public the scans of MY MSX turboR Technical Handbook without asking...

@ Takamichi: I think you should have asked me before making scans available to people (I know for sure you already gave the link to other MSX users).
One thing is making a personal copy, another making the scans available worldwide.

Probably I would have made the scans publicly available anyway, giving credit and honor to Takamichi for the effort of the hard work of scanning.
But if the book is "mine" I think you do NOT have the right to make it public.
(sorry for my English... I'm really annoyed by this behaviour).

I will never understand this kind of reaction :

a) sharing official docs with the MSX community should always be seen as positive by all MSX fans;
b) the only people who have the right to protest against the public releasing of scans are not the people who have bought the book but the people who have released the book.

It seems the message I tried to post never did it ... So here I go again.

"Some years ago the MSX Datapack was scanned by Dioniso and published by Konamito" is wrong. I scanned and uploaded the books. You can see this in the Karoshi forum: here. Some days later, Konamito uploaded the books and published the links in his website. The more, the better. I appreciate it.

About the MSX Turbo-R Technical Handbook: thanks Takamichi.

…and it’s gone, or at least I can’t access it, even with a yahoo.co.jp account. Sad

Edit: Removed rant. Thanks to some friendly MSX users I’ve received a copy. Please settle your differences, what matters most is that the documentation is available for all Smile.

Also many thanks to Takamichi for going through the trouble of scanning and sharing, despite the apparent miscommunication about who would put it online.

The first time I post here...

To sd_snatcher and others: Sorry it really was a personal and temporary file storage place so I deleted it. I know it's a very rare information so it deserves to be seen in other ways but have no idea what to do for now.

To MicroTech: I am sorry I did not tell you, I really didn't mean to betray you. sd_snatcher and I was running several doumentation related projects for a long time so I thought sharing knowledge could help something about the documentation issues, like that English MSX2+ and turboR manuals do not exist. Again for my carelessness if it hurt you.

Sorry, but I really have a hard time seeing the actual problem here. Question
So there are scans of a book you have. And then? You can't read it anymore?
Or did you plan to build a circus tent and let people take a peek for 0,50 cent a pop? Big smile

Maybe the buyer only bought the book because he was reassured scans wouldn't be shared. Or he bought it because it wasn't available online and it was something he was looking for for years. You don't know what was discussed, you don't know what was agreed upon.

Imagine buying a rare music cd for 100 euros, one that you can not (either legal or illegally) find on the web... only to discover that it is going to be made available for free download by the artist a few days later.. legal? yes. Wrong? no. But I bet you would be pretty pissed about it. I would be too.

If I recall correctly the same thing happened last year with some scanned msx magazines.

And what if the scans would have been made by another person who had this rare book ? I can understand the deceptive feeling, but it happens for everything : you buy something that you want to buy and sometimes just some days after, you see an add for the same thing with a less expensive price. Bad luck, but it's life !

Besides, the problem here does not come from the temporary sharing on the net, but from the public announcement on MRC.

As mars2000you said, that's life. Smile
I wouldn't be that pissed by the way, because all those others only have copies, and I got the real, physical thing. What am I gonna do if I'm the only one with access to the material, gloat over it in the isolation of my home?

I'm weary of the precedent that the reaction of the buyer creates. If I own a book and choose to make scans and share them before I sell it, that's my goddamn business.

If I don't know details of a situation, I think most wise to avoid meddling.
The problem is between me and Takamichi and it is not in my style blaming a man in public, I already sent him a mail to explain my position.

MSX TurboR Technical Handbook is simply too precious to remain in a "circus-tend for my personal gloating", I already managed to make it downloadable (again), at the right time you will be informed...

Already without translation it’s very useful, because from tables, figures and listings you can often get good information, and katakana is also easy to read. Also try Google Translate on your mobile phone, it has very good OCR and a decent initial translation so you can understand the basic meaning.

And with the OCR-ed text, if you have a little more knowledge about Japanese and with the help of a dictionary you can arrive at a pretty good translation of just the sections that you are interested in. That’s how I translated the MSX-MIDI section from the MSX Datapack.

Great news! I don't think anyone needs to be reminded of how important it is to have all MSX documentacion available to everyone that needs it.

I wonder if there's a repository of manuals of the MSX machines. I would like to see the manuals of the Sony F1 XV. Anyone knows if there's a scan available of the manuals of this machine?

You should consider yourself lucky, it is at least much rarer than MSX2 Technical Hand Book and MSX Datapack that are practically everywhere and can still be found with ease. I spent years to locate turboR Technical Hand Book.

I know the existence of typed text, but sadly it lacks critical elements like tables, diagrams and sample codes.

Hi MicroTech (Pepito).

In the last year you shared the book " MSX C - handbook" and I was very grateful because I could not find it.

I think I understand your anger , but for the whole community and you stay I also would be willing to lower your prejuijo so if I can call it.

I do not know if you paid $ 100 , $ 50 or even more or less what I just quoted . But I think this book is of great value to the community and I would like if you are agree to make a donation of 10 or even $ 20 and the other list members agreed and thereafter so you do not stay in full prejudice you again could authorize the publication of the book for community and you could at least on my part and I believe other members feel the same way as a gift from beloved MSX community.

I am awaiting your answer and of your PayPal account so I can make this donation .

I could have sent you a private email , but here I decided to expose my opnion I think much more constructive than getting this discord or something .

Many thanks for your attention .

There is already a difference between owning a rare book and having a digital copy.
You should share the digital copy. It's important info for the community and you can keep the rare book. It will always be yours anyway and you are lucky to have it.
