I think it should work if the msx has a mapper

As said it maybe from point of costing to use a chip for the memory instead of more. It would save money and space, since I assume that 4 MB chips are better to get than e.g. 8 chips of 64K that give 512

AFAIK, the only thing you need to run MSXDOS2 in MSX1 (provided that you have a mapper, of course) is remove the MSX1 checking. It was done here in Brazil by Adriano Cunha, that even managed to make a Sunrise IDE work in MSX1 (with DOS2).

Well, the main reason of a MSX1 for not running DOS2 is the lack of memory, but as Dumas comes with 512kb, it should boot up without problems, if the memory is correctly allocated.

By the way, Dumas works with expanded slots, does the MSX1 support expanded slots or just primary ones?

MSX1 has no problems with expanded slots. E.g. the Philips VG 8020/20 also has expanded slots. And many more MSX1 systems do.

As Manuel said, there's no problem with MSX1 and expanded slots. My Gradiente DDPLUS is a MSX1 machine and it has slots expanded.

Anyone knows when DUMAS is coming out??
It would be the PERFECT cartidge for my SVI-738 (w/ msx2roms & vdp9958).

512 kb memorymapper would be just fine for me, as I mostly only play games.
USB would be the ultimate solution to add flashcardreader or HDD for storaging games and other data.
The Ethernet is just simply too COOL.

I've been planning of adding memorymapper myself and buying sunrise flashreader, but should I wait for DUMAS??

Is not MSX1 dead, dudes? Tongue

I mean... is it so so so so needed that it is MSX1 compatible? Is MSX2 so expensive to still think on having just a MSX1? In fact, you can get your MSX2 working as MSX1... it is just nonsense...

But then again, lots of people saying stuff like it happened before with MSX1Chip won't buy it in the end. Because it always happen the same, people complaining about things and then they won't buy it... but it is cool to say such things, I pressume so.

Let's define the new program and the MSXer in 10 steps:

1. New HW can be sold.
2. Specs are published.
3. Can I complain? Yes, goto 4. No, goto 5.
4. I ask for something (tape, MSX1 support, more memory, lower price... (thousands of prizes here)). Goto 6
5. Maybe I am not smart enough or just I think that everything is great on this new HW. Goto 7.
6. HW makers will do it for you? Yes, goto 8.
7. I am a happy MSXer. Will I use/code for it? Yes, goto 9. No, goto 10.
8. The "improvement" makes it more expensive. Will I buy it? Yes, goto 7. No, goto 4.
9. OK, I buy new HW and even use it, I rock.
10. OK, I am a happy MSXer but I don't really know why.

Don't feel offended since it is not my goal here. At least we can't decide in the price of new HW, it won't ever be for free... Smile Else it would be nice then nobody would pay anymore for anything related with MSX. Tongue

Greets from someone who will buy Dumas, MSX1Chip and other great HW in the future, and won't just complain again and again. But OK, I admit it, I don't know if I am in step 9 or 10. Tongue
