Hello pieps
i recently aquired a Original Sharksym 2.2 MMC/SD interface
i put in latest 4.04 bios
everything works although i need to figue out some stuff too
now i found on erik van son homepage a zipfile containing a Diskmanager for windows.
i needs some DLL file which i copied in the same dir as the executable but whenever i put in the sd card with the files it say "not mmc/sd disk for MSX!"
does anyone know whats wrong?

Mmm, not sure; but wasn't Erik's SD card incompatible (and so its software) with Sharksym firmwares other than the original 3.10?

if I look at the sharsym website with google translate, he mentions working on an update with 4 beta. So chech out the files from v4 and later if there is an updated filemanager that is compatible with v4.0x.
Erikie website dates from v3...

i have just gone throught the entire site and downloaded every file i could find but there is no Diskman for windows to be found anywhere.
Anyone else have an idea?
or did every owner actually put in the .dsk files by hand on a real MSX?

The more recent versions of the MMC/SD interface bios do not use that nasty windows tool anymore, so have you tried:

* Having a partition on your sd card that can be accessed by your peecee
* copying your DSK images onto that partition
* on your MSX, use DISKMAN.COM to copy the DSK images into partitions.
* and so on.

Cool!. Has anyone tried to flash the 4.04 BIOS to Erik's SD card?

trouble is is that i would like to be able to make a backup of that card which is in the interface
if something would happen to that one all my afforst putting in those dsk images would have been for nothing

Sharksym's 4.0x BIOS works fine with Erikie's SD card interface, as far as I know it's software compatible with the SCC-chip containing SD interfaces those BIOSes where developed for.

There are a few things to watch though:

  • IIRC, a card formatted in FAT12 with the included utility (forgot the exact procedure) isn't recognized in PC's, and is best considered a custom format that only works on the MSX. I might be wrong on this point though.
  • FAT16 cards must be formatted as a plain volume, read: no partition table. Removable harddisks (and likely SD cards too) are usually formatted with a partition table, containing 1 partition. Cards formatted that way are not supported by Sharksym's BIOSes (unlike the 1chipMSX which handles such cards fine). Also you need Okei's FAT16 patch loaded to access such a card (again, unlike the 1chipMSX).

@OeiOei: if you can find a utility to write raw sectors to an SD card (or you know how to use a Linux liveCD), then the only other thing you need is this.

hello Retrotechie
the first partition that was made with the "intstall" command from that cars it visible in windows (no idea what format though)
but thats only the first 32 MB which i do no actually needs
what i actually want it to be able to make a backup of the "invisible" rest of the cart which contains the disk images that were stored the by diskman.exe

@oeioeivogeltje.

That is exectly how the 4.0x manual describes how it should work. I have no idea how you could backup other partitions though. I think I read that sharksym needed to write his own format for this interface...
