I tested on real MSX, and the cursor problems are there too.

Also, on real MSX I see a grey vertical bar right of the chess piece while it's in animation and it remains after moving. After animation also at the left there appears to be a black vertical bar, but this is at the position where it started.

xexe, problems? It's working! Thanks. I hope someday experts will wonder wtf is wrong with their rom-lists finding goonies, zanac, chessY2K, hrally, ... Smile
VRAM programming is a hell and, by the way, I couldn't find simple working "hello world" .COM file (not loading from basic) with simplest pixel drawing. Now I know, there is RST 30h thing, then BASIC not needed at all.
After I made working file reading, I'm not going to code in so limited language anymore. It is just other century, this heavy metal is too hard. Simply have not so much time for so small details as this requires.
Thanks for testing!

Tested on my 8235. The same as they already said. Cursors, grey bar... But it works. VRAM in MSX is easy Big smile

No glitches on BlueMSX. The truth is, it is not because of cursor, I would solve then. There are other lags too, but I just wanted become a part of history and not to rewrite code again to get product ready for Konami's QA testers. Keep Your $. Thanks Smile By the way, old games were masterpieces, because hardware was just next level after calculator. Respect to asm programmers.

Hi Chessforeva

I think it is a good project, what is more, I think it will be good to have a simple Chess database using pgn format for MSX like Scid or other similar programs (why not? there isn't any one).

anyway, I wonder why you posted that the MSX is not good for having an engine ¿?

regards

My program calculates 1move ahead already and checks checkmate. Maybe it is possible 2moves somehow. But don't expect normal chess game. You can test on Colossus4 or other emulated chess software of that time (before PCs), AIs played dumb chess (like trying to get 100km/h on bicycle). Some asms got incredible results but it is nothing compared even to javascript now. Chess requires lots of operations per second and large amounts of space to keep calculation results. It is not tetris. Of course, for fun, why not?...

Today MSX is always for fun Smile

It's true that MSX chess programs don't play as a human mind like computers do today, but, are you able to win to Cyrus II?

Really Collosus4 is not a good program, however it plays very similar to a human mind (or more similar than others)
