I would like to hear some opinions about the following:

People who have played RoA know that it features animated enemies in the battle screen, as wel as animated magic attacks.

1. Considering that animated enemies result in smaller less detailed enemies on the screen, do you think this is preferable over graphically better, static enemies (like in Dragon Slayer 6, PA3, Lost World)?

2. If the animated enemies concept is killed, and static enemies will be used, do you think the animated magic attacks of the players can remain in place, or do you think they will look out of place then?

I would really like to hear some opinions about this. Personally, my vote goes to using static enemies, but I'm not clear on the animated magic attacks of the players.

Please give me some feedback.

There is only 1 thing I care about, the game itself.
I rather have a 2D game that I can play for weeks then a 3D game that I can play for only a couple of days.

1.: Please, keep the animated enemies! They have a certain coolness factor Tongue
2.: I think they're 'out of place' then, I mean, it'll look stupid compared to the static enemies.

Static enemies can be larger and/or more detailed, I know, but smaller enemies have their thing as well. Since RoA #1 contains animated enemies, why not prolong the thing up to the whole saga? I know it's a hell of a lot of work, but you might find another talented graphician to aid you in the job. Smile

You can always choose to do smaller, more subtile animations like in SD-Snatcher. These enemies can be quite large and detailed and do have animations. Then you can still use animated magic attacks.

I think less detailed enemies wouldn't fit in the Umax line of increasing quality when compared with PA3 and LW.

About the two points again you stated: it looks kinda stupid when the VR-system says 'Joshua stikes at rock troll with a gigantic fireball', which is illustrated nicely with some neat graphics. Then, when ''Rock troll swings its huge spiked club at Joshua' it doesn't make sense if you don't see nothing. Or am I wrong at this point?

I'm more the hack'n slash dude myself (no seperate battle system) so euh, could you not just drop the whole turn based batteling ?!? you can have "little" animated characters on screen just slice'm and get some extra HP/EXP yeah!

(like Ys etc... oh, man. I'm currently playing YS VI (arc of ...) GREAT game! good battle system hehe)

That's a nice angle too, like the Ys or Xak series.

I would rather like to see some backgrounds (assuming there aren't any).

Personally I say use whatever works fastest. We allready are waiteing way to long. Which might be partially our own fault to.

Now I think the option BIFI gives here a few lines above smaller animations is personally I personally think the best option quality wise.
If I remember correct some of the PA2 bosses also did this.
So that's 1 vote for small animations and detailed enemy's I think.

So Ro make this XAK/YS kicking hack'n slash game instead of playing YS VI Smile

This is a good point. I think the larger enemies in IllusionCity are also seperate components that merely float over eachother.
