How to detect a printer?

I like to know how I can detect (in basic) if there is a printer on the MSX connected or not.

i think! you need to test one of the bits to see the result..... as memory serves. You can check if the printer is ready, or not. as far as i know there is no way to see if it is connected, only to check if it is online.
