Check that, interesting info about the author... I wonder if we could contact him! :)
(He must be Dutch, looking at his name)
I could not find him on the web. Too bad. I´d really like to talk to one of those MSX guys... The original Skooter seems to be a masterpiece of programming considering the difficulties I am having to remake it, specially talking about collision detection.
Good news! I contacted the author. Now he's the chief programmer of Mercenaries from Lucasarts. And seemed a little bit surprised about receiving an e-mail about a game made 17 years ago. He did not object about remaking Skooter. The game copyright belongs to Aackosoft, that went out of business many years ago. This weekend I'll try to finish it, and later I will implement a game editor.
So what happened to the Aackosoft copyrights? Do they still exist, are their games Public Domain now? If not, could they be declared freeware?
Man, you could've asked all those things!
The Aackosoft copyrights were bought by none other than Steven Vanhetgoor (MSX Mozaik)
Where can I find this Steven?
Oh, by the way... I guess that Ronald does not knows anything about what happened later... Later he moved to many other plataforms, like the SNES, Amiga and PC.
Leandro - I'm planning to phone Steven later today. If you have any questions you'd like to ask him or would like him to contact you, please send your questions to snout@msx.org and I'll ask them for you.
I don't think he would mind a remake of Skooter at all, but I can safely say he would not be willing to drop the copyrights of the game completely...
here's a question "are you the next challange jury?"
He's not planned for the next challenge, but we might ask him to do some future challenges indeed
