thinlizzy: how many times do I have to repeat that nobody is forcing you to buy games at EGG. If you don't want to get the games legally, then that's your choice. I personally think that it's a good initiative that all those games are still legally available. How on earth can you call games crap when they are released by EGG, and cool when they are warez/released years ago? A game is good or it's not and its distributor or the way it's being distributed has nothing got to do with that. Still, (again), if you don't want to buy it then just don't.

The only thing you can't seem to understand is that the only thing that isn't allowed is linking to warez or requesting warez links on the MRC and that seems to be about the only thing you're doing here. I strongly recommend you to take part in other discussions on the MRC, instead of only trying to see how far you can go with discussing our policies on warez and trying find workarounds from our policies.

Are you REALLY thinking that because of some minor sales of ancient games through EGG, Falcom or Konami will make new MSX games? Dude, wake up!

Well, as Aiky (Compille) already have made the decision to release an MSX game on a commercial basis (Guru Logic) it's not 100% unlikely. However, especially Konami is a tricky one as they haven't even joined the MSX Revival activities as of yet.

Keep in mind that things are quite different in Japan as

a) MSX played a more important role in the history of Japanese computing
b) Kazuhiko Nishi is still involved, and he still is quite a big-shot in Japan (I experienced that myself)
c) I don't need a C because the a) and b) were so great (c) Rik Mayall Tongue

Oh I agree Snout, don't get me wrong, I would just like to put a finger on the fact that both Falcom as Konami are very succesful with their current work and make much more sales than they will ever do (or did) on MSX. There is a difference between allowing a company to resell existing products - where you make some money on things you don't have to put any effort in - and creating new games for a redundant system, not matter how important the role in history was.

It could even be commercially feasible (creating an MSX game doesn't cost millions of dollars) and maybe they even might be profitable, but the money it would make is pocketmoney. I've made games that only costed a couple of thousand euro, which made a profit, with which I could buy a new fax. Catch my drift? And I'm no Konami! or Falcom.

I knew Aiky made that decision, but then again, who the hell is Aiky anyway? They are not global players in the gamesindustry, except for some Japanese people no-one has ever heard of them. Again, don't get me wrong, it's a great thing that a company wants to put effort in new content for the MSX system, but it is highly unlikely the big-shots we're hoping for will do more than politely smile at you.

Konami makes mobile games too, that's a similar market as the MSX will be in the near future (when MSX PLAYer runs on more mobile devices, besides PocketPC).

Everybody knows Puyo Puyo, and Zanac/Aleste is well-known among shoot'em-up fans too. Sure they don't own Puyo Puyo anymore, but you make it sound you (Engine Software) are more known/successful than them!

Again, don't get me wrong, it's a great thing that a company wants to put effort in new content for the MSX system, but it is highly unlikely the big-shots we're hoping for will do more than politely smile at you.
Ofcourse, at THIS point in time that's what would happen. But neither you nor I have knowledge about the future, so you can't say it won't happen. You CAN say there's the possibility of it happening. And that possibility (to loop back to thinlizzy's comments) is getting smaller the more games are illegally copied.

Konami makes mobile games too, that's a similar market as the MSX will be in the near future (when MSX PLAYer runs on more mobile devices, besides PocketPC).

And how many PocketPC owners do you think are running MSX PLAYer on it worldwide? It's a bit optimistic to compare a possible MSX games market to the mobile phone games, which is basically the largest possible market on the planet. Especially since - like you say - Konami is already supporting several mobile platforms with better game development hardware/environments than MSX PLAYer.

Everybody knows Puyo Puyo, and Zanac/Aleste is well-known among shoot'em-up fans too. Sure they don't own Puyo Puyo anymore, but you make it sound you (Engine Software) are more known/successful than them!

Not that many people know Puyo-Puyo really, if you go to, say the Gamexpo, and ask gamers if they know Puyo-Puyo or Zanac or Compile, 99% of them will say 'what? who?'. And if they do, it's because of the dreamcast incarnations which were not made by Aiky/Compile. And no, I did absolutely not mean that we are more known or succesful at all (because that is not the case), I compared them to Falcom and Konami. People hardly know Falcom* (aside from the Japanese)...so let's not discuss Aiky Smile

* they might get more known now Konami is porting Ys 6 to PSP and PS2

Ofcourse, at THIS point in time that's what would happen. But neither you nor I have knowledge about the future, so you can't say it won't happen. You CAN say there's the possibility of it happening. And that possibility (to loop back to thinlizzy's comments) is getting smaller the more games are illegally copied.

Oh absolutely! I am certainly choosing the side of the companies where illegal copies are concerned, and if 'we' are going to copy the games sold by Egg and Guru Logic too, Aiky will not make new games. Your remark is justified in that way, I just wanted to make clear that for a global multi-billion game company such as Konami it's not obvious to create resources to make MSX games, contrary, it's highly unlikely. Of course there is the possibility of it happening, just like it's possible that America accidently fires their nuclear arsenal at the moon which makes it break orbit, crash into mercury and make the sun go supernova.
