hey guys,

since there are no "ladies" in here
to whom I could ask for help on it,

could you, please, help me to have
a complete tutorial on using those
wonderful MSX emulators?

I have fMSXDOS and blueMSX...

love them both, but was not able
to make them run any HD image,
nor have I found any programs,
just a few games and boot disks...

Most of those emulators have excellent manuals. They usually contain a lot of information on how to use the emulator. I wouldn't really use fMSXDOS anymore, unless you have a very slow computer. Try either NLMSX or blueMSX, both are easy to use and emulate the diffent MSX computers pretty well.

If by HD image you mean a 1.44MB floppy disk, the MSX system doesn't natively support this. I think it's possible using an IDE interface, which I think openMSX emulates. I don't know if you can emulate the LS120 though. If by HD you mean a harddisk, I think openMSX is the only emulator that supports Harddisks. openMSX is a little less user friendly though...

I agree with Sonic, that would be easier to use the blueMSX, cause of his good interface. Another good one is the RuMSX...

The emulators have good documentation, but another good source of information is the Ultimate MSX FAQ www.faq.msxnet.org/.

To deal with the images of disks, there is a very usefull free utility that you can get here: members.chello.at/lexlechz/DISKMGR.ZIP.

I hope so... Using openMSX is even more difficult than programming a VCR!!!

Seriously, it's not so much difficult, but I've gotten too lazy to remember commands and then type them in this point and click world we find ourselves in...

I hold you to that, manuel! Honestly, I haven't tried to work more than 15 minutes to get the thing working... And why should I? I have a Pentium III 600MMX, so probably it won't emulate perfectly. Moreover, I got a real A1ST here. I think any emulator is a bit obsolete for me... Wink Well, I use NLMSX/BlueMSX to test my crap in an emulator, and sometimes I use them for drawing... My MSX mouse isn't that good anymore Crying

Furthermore, YSMSX: welcome!

I just did some research for you, and I found this. It seems to be some kind of general help file for fMSX, I think it doesn't matter what version you have. I don't know the differences though, because I've only worked with fMSX-DOS, and believe me, that is long ago.

If you need to utilize the commandline to issue a specific start of fMSX, you can either make a CMD/BAT-file (open a text editor, and write down the command) and run it, or you can open your DOS-prompt (Start -> execute -> cmd [enter]) and type the whole thing there. Good luck!

Or use some launcher. I'm sure there are more, but this was the quickest example I could find. ;)
