Offcourse it can be done. I understand your point a 100% but motivation is the key factor here. From experience I have learned that getting a project like this to finish needs more than just a miracle. It requires at least 3 experienced coders to code, sfx, gfx their lives into such a project and getting those people together is close to a impossible task. The other problem is that the status of the SF2 sourcecode is somewhat problematic.
