... only one point: wasn't the screen 9 reserved to Korean fonts?

Actually the trademark lies in the hands of MSX Licencing Corporation. I don't know the specifics on how to get it but for example the Gr8bit is offically licenced!

The GR8BIT licence is signed by Kazuhiko Nishi in 2012 as seen in the licence photo.

Initally yes, but recent version of Hangul BASIC, developed by MSX fan Plaire, extends its using to non-Korean machines and therefore to International and Japanese characters, as explained here : http://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/software/screen9plus

So, Nerlaska should replace his planned screens 9, 13 and text 3 by screens 13, 14 and 15.

Btw, it's maybe the reason why it's impossible to download MSX3 version 0.0.24 :(

I know that already since I've read that site too, so what are you trying to say?

I was wondering about who has the authority over the MSX name. It seem to be Mr.Nishi has it alone.
But what about Microsoft ? dont they have any authority over the MSX name ?

As the pic/certificate says, Nishi is the CEO of MSX Licencing Corperation, who own the MSX name.

Regarding Microsoft, I'n told they lost the authority of the MSX trademark in 1986 so here is your answer Big smile

Microsoft doesn't own the MSX trademark. It was transferred to ASCII Corporation and later to the MSX Association / MSX Licensing Corporation.

Microsoft still owns the copyright of the MSX-BASIC interpreter and probably (correct me if I'm wrong) the MSX BIOS.

Yes. That's why Korean machines are the only ones using SCREEN 9.

It's explained (in just a couple sentences) in the MSX-Datapack, Volume 1, page 587:

"SCREEN 9 is used in Korean MSX machines to display Hangul characters. Because of this, it's not used in Japanese MSX computers."

I thinks the msx-bios software is part of the MSX specifications, so, its function's list, registers usage for input and output are part of the MSX standard, but its internal implementation of the actual code is Microsoft Copyright, but, here is issue, most of the code in the bios is actaully chip behaviour based, can't be done different, and as the exact registers for input/output are already set, anybody looking for the best implementation will ends with the exact code that Microsoft did in about the 60% of the bios functions, if not more.

So, reimplement the bios without seeing it before, like done by an "out of the scene, z80 programmer" that didn't have contact with MSX-BIOS before.... (remember the case of IBM-PC history)....
