And except the trees and signs in the doors, but they can be easily fixed for non-colour clash smooth scroll.
Have you considered the possibility of visually creating more colours by mixing two subsequent frames? For example the edges of the trees could be made by mixing the aqua of the sky and a shade of dark green of the inner tree in subsequent frames, thereby giving the illusion of a lighter shade of green for the tree edges.

Obviously this requires some planning as for which colours to use for a decent effect, but some things may be achieved with it defying the 2-colours-per-8-px limit. PaulBrk may want to provide visual designs?

I'm just not sure how much CPU is left for changing individual tiles every second frame when employing an MSX1 finescroll at 25/30 fps.

Hrothgar, yeah, that´s the clever way to get "more" colours. Smile

On a scroll game the color mix effect only work if you have hardware scroll and when maching a correct speed the colors will mix.
Thats the way it is, on MSX1 is hard to implement. on MSX2 it can be possible.

On static screens it is possible on MSX1. 3 Colors on 8 pixels.

Paulbrk, can you explain why this technique can't be used on MSX1 with a 25/30 fps smoothscroll implementation? Is it too limited CPU capacity to change tiles amidst the general scrolling routine?

Wanna see this smoothscrolling on MSX 1? LOL! LOL! http://jf.peer.name/msx/demo20110529smb.zip , use cursor keys to move.

I am not planning this game, still lots engine work to do (the ufo sprite is a fragment of that, press space key), but I just couldn't resist to make this sketch.

Done in screen 2S (scrollable gfx, multi-colortable) :)

I tried the demo blueMSX, I have msx close.

Scroll Screen2 good, but I shoot the bullet has a black square, is so as to appear or is it a bug?

Seeing this scroll so good, why not make a cartridge for MSX1 and MSX2, which depending on the machine where you insert trigger an upgrade or another?

Cartridge assembly as well as the Goonies R.

Congratulations

Felicidades
