No I am not kidding you. Why do you think I started spamming this forum about scrolling. Programming the VDP because that was all the basics I needed to get Super mario world made on MSX. That is the one game IMHO that MSX is missing and once that exsist on MSX well... then MSX is just plain perfect Wink

Still in the learning fase so I don't know how usefull I can be.

Everyone says that Screen4 is evil but we keep forgetting about what Konami did with screen4. This game is so dynamic with its controls, accelarating stopping etc etc that SC4 would not be a bad choice at all. Then on the other hand. I tested ARTRAGS startrek on real MSX and that runs very good too.

... I have to partly disagree with that it'd be the only one. Where are the MSX versions of
* "Castlevania" part II & III (!) (especially considering #2 was very much like the MSX version)
* Megaman (!)
* Metroid series
* first Zelda games
* Final Fantasy besides #1

To name a few.
It's not that I'm begging to developers today - I mean it more like: why didn't they (Konami/Capcom/Nintendo/etc.) port it to MSX in the first place, back then?

i agree with huey, here the gameplay is the most important part
i would invest in a tile based software sprite system
and in a tilebased parallax (something like in valis II)

No smooth scroll needed, even if probably, for 4 pixels speed, using r#19 without borders (like in space manbow on msx2) shouldn't hurt

Of course MSX2´ers must have new games too, but what I meant, of course was just a suggestion, that if someone´s gonna make SCREEN 4 MSX2 game, then it could be possible to make MSX(1) version too, which partially uses the same engine. So, two games for the MSX world, not bad, me thinks. Smile

But anyway, I would be happy enough for having SCREEN 1 smooth scrolling super mario world. Smile I altered original sketch a bit to make it look like SCREEN 1, there may still be some wrong coloured pixels and I don´t mean that this example could scroll smoothly without colour clash in SCREEN 1, but you can see what I mean. Smile There´s alternative font idea in the middle of the screen, you can decide which one is best. Those blue "mountains" could easily have some monochrome shading. I don´t know if upper screen text will give trouble for making smooth scroller, but you can make a better and more realistic sketch with better colour choices by yourself. Smile When pictures were ready, I did some mistake and pictures became blurry. Sad But luckily you can still see what I mean.

I haven´t checked it, but I think that song is the same (short version) of Super Mario World tune (PT3), so you can hear how super mario world could sound thru PSG. :)
