Hi, everyone has times they have to take a few steps back from developing software or new ideas... the creativity is gone and even looking at the developers notepad is like staring into blank space.... anyone else recognize what I'm talking about? Question

on msx there are some kinds of games that can be done easily
some others that it is very hard or almost impossible to do due to HW limits

Probably we have already developed all the games that is easy to do on msx and none wants (or has the resources
to) to climb the mountains of the unexplored attempting new challenges agains the poor msx HW

@Vamp: I know what you mean.

My remedy is to just start playing my MSX game collection, watch all the 8bit youtube stuff I can find (fukenko's channel is my favourite) and some good nights rest.

@Vampier: No, I can't really regognize your problem... For me it seems that my head is always full of ideas to test and things to do, but there is no such amount of time in this world that would be enough to do all that... Worst part is that the problem tends to get worse every time you actually do something because you always get new ideas while you work on old ones.

@NYYRIKKI: Guru definitely Smile
@Vampier: Know what you are talking about. On my side of things add that I always have heaps of ideas floating around that I can make for Windows, Linux and the web, and then my passion MSX. The non-MSX ones could make me money, but been there done that - commercialism is not for those that don't like stress. MSX development is for fun, but I still find the previous stress stopping me from proceeding. Newer languages have made me lazy, assembler is a lot of work, but I think the important thing is to embrace the total control that you have. But yes, burn out happens, and I think the best thing is to take a break and do something different - play games, read books, post on the forum and just leave the code until you feel the hunger to have another go. Just personally completed the final level of Star Craft II myself, which gives a sense of accomplishment and might get me back to the MSX code again Smile

Yeah, I hear you. I always have a bunch of different projects going at once, so my first tactic is to see if I feel like working on any of them. After that, I'll try working on one of my music or art projects. If I'm really not in a creative mood, I'll just screw around and play games until I am Wink

I'm with both sides here - although I do get a burnout from time to time, I do have many ideas and projects to do, and after a short break (sometimes a good night of sleep, or a cooling shower, or just going out for a while), I'm back again at the game Smile

It's very hard if you have a lot on your shoulders, and somtimes it's just too much work (not msx-related) that burns you out. But then again, programing on MSX is joyful, and sometimes can even take the burnout feeling away Smile

@Vampier

You need sources of inspiration.

As there are a lot of things that still can be done for this nice system, some very productive sources for inspiration are:

- Try bugfixing existing MSX games
- Try making HDD versions of floppydisk games
- Try a translation project for some game people like
- Try porting some game from another Z80 platform to the MSX.
- Try helping some other people projects
