After giving us MSX1 games such as Vulgardry, Eikosan and Doomo, Japanese MSX user baa from Superman MSX this time created an action RPG called Yn, and once again in his kindness offers it free of charge to enjoy.
As the name would imply, the game indeed bears some resemblance to especially the first installment of Falcom's Ys series which we all know and love. Documentation, including an English readme is provided in the package. Also, the game features an internal memory save and load function.
Time to power up our MSX engines again to help Taro uncover the secrets of the mysterious Madame's Tower!

Yeah, you have to attack them somewhat Ys-ey as well, but the game is pretty damn hard anyway.

It's pretty difficult, but not impossible and it does have some unique boss fights, especially the last two bosses. But this game is a total joke / parody of Ys mixed with a bit of Buddhist references.

I watched my friend MP83, who runs the MSX Channel on Youtube, stream a playthrough of this yesterday and it was a rather short game. I think he was able to finish it in about half an hour. It seems that the only real enemies in the game that you really need to beat are the bosses, and most enemies can be avoided. I think the player is able to level up 2 times, and one time really early in the game after getting some kind of water from the well in the upper area above the first town the player starts off in.

It's nice to see these types of games being created, but I do long to play a fully developed full adventure title like Zelda, Golvellius or Ys that is created by the MSX scene some day in the future. : )
