Phantomas Saga: Infinity for MSX

The MSX version of Phantomas Saga: Infinity, which was announced in August 2006 has been released today. In this old-school platform game, you, as Phantomas, have to destroy the Thief Androids Factory activating the ten auto-destruction devices inside the building. These BOLTs (Binaural Onslaught Light Transmitters) are located in highly restricted areas. Each BOLT needs a key to be activated. Your job is to find 10 keys to use in the 10 BOLTs. Once the 10 devices are activated, you'll have 30 seconds to run outside the factory, just before the factory will explode in a million of fragments.

This videogame, originally released for ZX Spectrum, was presented earlier this year in the MadriSX & Retro fair by CEZ GS Team, the development group from the well-known Spanish gaming portal Computer Emuzone. The game itself got the attention of various game developers from different systems, who started to work on different versions of the game, trying to get the best of each computer whilst mantaining the spirit of the game, with the intention to create a multi-platform game, just like software houses made in our beloved golden age of 8 bits gaming. At present, there are 3 versions of the game out and ready: ZX Spectrum 48/128, Amstrad CPC and MSX, but there are people working on game versions for other platforms such PC, MSX2 and more.

The MSX game version of Phantomas Saga: Infinity has been developed by a third-party team, Karoshi Corporation, in direct cooperation with the original author of the ZX game and several CEZ GS members. The MSX vresion includes lots of add-ons to the game in order to use the MSX' capabilities: game code has been completely rewritten in assembler, colorful graphics with backgrounds have been added, and the game now uses hardware sprites, graphic effects, and more. You can download all available versions of the game on the Phantomas Saga: Infinity website.

Good game! Definitely has that 80s feel to it. Takes quite a bit of practice though. Especially with all those enemies appearing on a path that crosses the places where you enter a screen.

Nah, it is all about practice. The game is not that difficult once you get used to the jump distances and the map Wink. And, as the keys and bolts appears in a quite random way each play, the game is always fun Wink. Btw, first Karoshi game out this year! Yahoo!

Unicorn I trained the game, but I will not release the trainer until it's time to release. I do not want to ruin the hard work these guys put into the game. Either play it and have fun or cheat and have another game added to your list with cheating. The rewards with not cheating and finishing game are much more rewarding.

Great!, and now, with the new engine; what about something like "Jet Set Phantomas" for the next year? Wink . Bigger and with better (even more MSX) graphics.

...or maybe a first attempt to remake the MoG genre? Big smile

Yes, there are already cheats - Vampier is so fast Wink - but it's not the moment to release them and it's also my point of view as member of the MSXdev' team Smile

Wow! Excellent concept and execution. My only complaint is that there'll be a lot of wasted time going through the keys one already has gotten on previous plays. Beyond that, the graphics look very nice and while the robots seem strange, the whole game has a nice graphics scheme. The music is great as well! Gives MSX2 games like Dracula and Contra a run for their money.
