Perfect Fit

MsxKun surprises the MSX world with a new free puzzle game: Perfect Fit! It's a puzzle game based on a GP2X game by Akuma no Houkon. In this game you get to move boxes to a spot with a corresponding color, at first sight it may look a bit like Sokoban. In Perfect Fit, however, you move these boxes with a cursor sprite and movements go on until the box bumps onto a wall or other box. The first levels are not much of a bother, but soon enough you'll be tearing out your hairs! This game is a 32KB ROM, and runs on an MSX1. The artwork deserves extra attention: it all looks and sounds very polished and complete. Bad luck for your free monday evening, people!

Nice game indeed. And I like the rendition of Sweet Child of Mine at the title screen. Is the in-game music a known music too?

I have no idea about the ingame music, it was called Rain.pt3 I can't do musics Wish I know who made it, I like them both. Don't like to catch musics from internet but it's better than left the game with no audio.

Cool game indeed! Standard levels are a bit trivial, but the extended set easily makes up for that. But where is my full motion video for finishing the first 75 levels?

mm, not too sure about that, as various dev games can be bought at -for instance- Bitwise.

I think the only dev-rule to keep in mind is that a free version should remain available.

Then again, iirc there was some rule about not releasing a dev entry outside the organization prior to the deadline, or at least there was such a rule in previous editions. If such a rule is still relevant for dev'08, then you've more or less ruled out yourself already.

Yes.

Do not redistribute neither unfinished or finished versions of the game before the end
of the contest. Finished versions will be distributed only from the MSXdev official
web pages before the end of the contest. Beta versions used for debugging and testing
purposes are allowed, but they should be only distributed to beta-testers.

Maybe add a written disclaimer to the cartridge when you sell it before the msxdev deadline:

"DISCLAIMER: Until January 1st 2009, the cartridge can be used for beta testing purposes only."

Best option would of course be to make a second game of the same concept. Different graphics, different music, maybe some more bonus images (you can fill up to a MegaROM!) etc. Then this second game can -I guess- be legally submitted for MSXdev'08.

Yeah thats true. There is nothing that prevents you from using the same game engine. I would love to see it in msxdev, its a really fun puzzle game and I love puzzle games

Imho MSXdev contests are organized to get developers' attention for them to create MSX games. MSXKun already made an MSX game: for me, as that's the main goal of the contest, it is just COOL. In fact, MSX developers have plenty of reasons to build an MSX game nowadays: the MSXdev, MRC Challenges, Passion MSX2 contest, cartridge making, etc. So, let the MSXdev contests die, but bringing dozens of games each year, and I will be happy!

Yup, as long as you have new MSX games, who cares where do you release them.
In that case, game concept is not mine, music is not mine.. so I don't feel like contesting with it, and I prefer to support AAMSX (which i'm member) if we can release the game in cartridge at RU and help pay the room with it.
I'll probably be on MSXDEV, with another game, well... I hope I finally can!! . So i'm multitasking
