A few days ago, we reported about the playable Pengo MSX2 Demo, which lets you play two levels. Today, Paxanga updated their website with a new gameplay video. The video contains four levels and gives you a very good impression about the development. People visiting the RU MSX Meeting in Barcelona will have a preview of the full version of this game, which will be for sale soon. Here is a list of some features:

  • Scroll screen to maintain the vertical orientation of the original Arcade, without losing gaming area
  • Ability to change the DIP switches
  • Possibility to save the high scores and the configuration of the DIP switches in the cartridge

It's an excellent work and I want to buy it. Will it be sold at the MSX Cartridge Shop? When?

Quite impressive! Big smile

But I was wondering... wouldn´t it be better with an horizontal layout? The original arcade allows players to see the enemies all the time on the screen and I guess this scrolling could affect the gameplay.

Question Eh? Change the dip switches? What dip switches? Change them into what? What for? And why and how would I want to save the configuration of said dip switches in the cartridge?

Well, arcade machines have internal Dip Switches to change game options, like difficulty, number of lives, coins needed...
Pengo has them. So, Pengo for MSX2 has them. Of course there are not real dip switches, they're "software" switches Big smile But you can change them to set game options as in the real arcade, and save your config to the flash cartridge, together with hi-scores. If you want Tongue

(note: it's what MAME does, for example)

Then it wouldn't be the same feeling. There are some horizontal layout clones already. I think you get used to scroll, and as MSX2 version is easier than arcade machine (promised!), I think there is enought room and gameplay keeps ok. But well, of course after all this time, i'm used to it... You should try the demo and decide youself Smile (btw.. I need to update the demo in a mix, to fix a bug Tongue )
