From the looks of it, this year's edition of MSXdev is going to bring us an exceptional amount of brand new MSX1 games! Less than a month into the competition, the second completed entry has already been submitted.

In only 1 kilobyte, Michel d'Alger has created an MSX remake of Tom Arnold's Robots. In this game you have to run away from the Z80-based robots that are chasing you whilst attempting to let the robots crash into each other. In case of need you can use a teleport, but as this device transports you to a random location on the screen you might end up even worse than before. Applying the right tactics is essential and therefore it's only a good thing the game is turn-based.

Encouraging novice MSX developers to get into developing games as well, the complete source code - ready to be compiled in asMSX - is included as well!

level 9, 1180 points. Like it, although BIN/CAS/WAV versions do not seem to work in MSX2 even keeping SHIFT pressed while booting (disable disk drive). Maybe an additional EI is required. ROM version works fine though.

If I've read the code properly the CAS/WAV version should even work in the infamous Casio PX-7, the only MSX computer with only 8 KB RAM. Thumbs up for 0xE000! Wink

has created an MSX remake of Tom Arnold's Robots.

Where can I find more information about the original game?
And... where's the source code for the msx version?

Wikipedia is the place. About the source code, RTFM! ;)

I really liked this game. I'm considering creating a version for the iPhone.
Any ideas for improving the playability on a turn-based game like this? Maybe some items like Eggerland Mystery?
