MSXdev10 - #8 Heroes Arena

With past efforts like Traffic Jam, Txupinazo! and Stray Cat, MSX game developer Imanok is known for his attention to gameplay. Without even having played his new MSXdev10 entry, this short history lesson tells us that it will be enjoyable to play, and it is.

Heroes Arena (the heroes being several popular MSX game characters) is a mix between Pong and Breakout, very similar to Battle Flip Shot on the Neo-Geo. Fitting graphics and music moulds this into a well-polished MSX game. Let's battle it out!

Excellent! A true party game.
The gameplay, the graphics, the sound, all very well polished.
Actually managing to make something fresh out of the 'bounce the ball' concept, with added elements like the capsules and the items which appear.
May be my favorite Imanok game to date.
Thanks!!!

Excellent game. Big smile

IMHO the best IMANOK game and the best MSXDev entry this year.

Super game! Very extended game with all kinds of options,
cool graphics, music etc. etc. Great to see it has Tournament
and VS player mode options for playing with more people.

Think IMANOK did a super job for the MSX Dev (again...).
Congradulations!

Big smile

Fantastic game! Reminds me of Penguinkun wars as well. The music, although repetitive, fits the game nicely and doesn't bore.

It wasn't clear to me at first how to do a 1-player game. That selection screen is a bit confusing.

Ivan, just choose a single character and then "OK". I did the same mistake too. Wink

Thank you guys. I'm glad you like the game! Big smile

@hap: Well, the game was done mainly during 2010... and I felt quite strange to write 2011 in game for a 2010 contest, you know Tongue

@Ivan: In the manual I explained it is possible to play from 1 to 8 players in the Tournament mode Wink

Really nice game, and the winner for me. However, when running with BlueMSX, and a mouse connected to port one, the cursorkeys did not respond at all... Did not test on a real MSX, though...

Thanks again Smile

@Poltergeist: I don't know what to say about that issue with BlueMSX. I have an USB mouse connected and there's no problem at all with it.
