The MSX Revival seems to be running very smoothly at the moment since we receive more and more information about it. As we all know, Microsoft still has the copyrights of the MSX BIOS. Kazuhiko Nishi (and thus the MSX Association) is however entitled to sell and distribute the MSX trademark. The system requirements of the MSXPLAYer are:

  • Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP
  • DirectX5 compatible soundcard
  • A VGA card capable of displaying 16 bit colours at a 800x600 resolution

The MSX-PLAYer will probably run fine on Windows NT 3.51/4.0 as well, but there is no guarantee on that.About the CPU - MSX PLAYer still needs a high clock CPU to emulate a MSX 2+ computer at full-speed. It is possible to run the PLAYer on low-end configurations however. The next step in the revival will be creating MSXPLAYer versions for Mac, Linux and Windows CE.
