Sony introduced the 3.5 inch floppy disc in 1981. Last week, Sony Japan announced that the production of floppy discs will end on March 6, 2011. Sony stopped the production of 3.5 inch drives last September. Hitachi Maxell and Mitsubishi stopped producing floppy discs last year. So you better stack up if you're not using other drives and media such as a SD or MMC interface!

Well, Sony isn't the only maker of floppy disks, right?

Also, there are even places that still selling 5.25" disks (, so I wouldn't worry that much. But of course, using a SD card reader or a similar interface is much better.

Sony might not be the only manufacturer for 3.5 inch, but let me say this.
According to my information it will be questionable if there will be any 3.5 inch floppies still made by the end of next year if the current trend continues.
