SEGA Dreamcast revival?

On the web, rumors are circulating that SEGA are to offer a rather surprising bundle with the upcoming shooter Radilgy. Although no official statements have been made yet, it looks like the game will become available bundled with a SEGA Dreamcast console and a special phone card. Source of this information is the German website Gamefront, yet there are several websites -such as GamersReports- that doubt whether the Dreamcast will actually become available again. It does not seem unlikely though, that after (in alphabetical order) Atari, Commodore and MSX, SEGA is to join in the line of revived retro computers.

*** Update

Thanks to viejo_archivero, we can now confirm that the return of the SEGA Dreamcast consoles is not a rumor, but a fact. Pre-orders of the Dreamcast bundle can be placed over here.

Some corrections/additions. The game name is Radilgy, and actually it is not a rumor: a limited number of Dreamcasts will be sold just in Japan with this game (preorders can be done here). Btw, another new shooter will come on March, this time the game will be Under Defeat (by G.Rev) and is another direct conversion from a Naomi arcade. Long life to the Dreamcast! ;)

Cool! Smile. Anyway, I do not think it is a strict revival... they will only ship a limited number of consoles and just inside Japan. I guess is more like stock sellin' than startin' a revival. But is cool to see the Dreamcast is still movin', and having nice software releases Big smile.

Ah very good news indeed. Can't wait to play those games on my DC, which I consider one of the best consoles ever Smile

AFAIK, those are not new DC systems, are old repaired DCs bundled by Sega for a limited release. I read somewhere Sega did the same with Puyo Pop Fever.

It's not that hard to obtain a secondhand DC for some lausy bucks... So... funny initiative, but if they go over € 60,-, it's not that interresting...

I wouldn't actually call the Dreamcast a 'retro computer' or 'retro console', but heck... Smile

real DreamCast discs are GD-Roms though, they don't work on a normal DVD-Rom player.

Obviously I mean buy a real dreamcast so I can actually play the games I bought years ago Smile

On emulator there isnt much point in playing a real copy imho, Isos are way more convenient Smile

You can download DC ISOs, burn them and play them on an unmodded DC... That's a lot of fun... They thought the CDs wouldn't be copyable, but it turns out they are...
I had one as well... There was some issue with the lid... When the lid opens, the machine resets... So having issues with the lid is quite dangerous when playing a game... The tiniest move of the console resulted in a reset... Man I hated that thing for that reason...
It seems this wasn't an isolated insident...

My DC's still fine, the controller and video cables are a little worn out, though.

Mine still works like a charm as well. I had some power issues as well but thats easy to fix. Take the DC apart and clean the power pins. The only thing I want now is an easy installable harddisk mod so I can get rid of the (burned) CD's/GD's

My brother had a DC (thats where I played on back in the days) but the most vulnerable part of console was the GDrom. He did got some spare part (i think its the lens part) from a friendly gameshop in case it broke down, but he also bought a extra dreamcast just in case.

Btw that spare dreamcast was one from the last batch, which unfortunately has latest firmware or whatever which made it unable to read copied cd's. But we never did use copied games anyway because ppl said burned cd's may shorten the lens' lifespan.. whether its true or not.. I dont know.

@creepy yeah MSX beat DC in that regard, we got nice CF/SD card readers/nowinds/flashcards Big smile I once saw some site where someone posted his working setup for DC with a SD card reader, but iirc it needed soldering/modding.

SD card reader for DC is a very simple mod, but they are available commercially aswell.
