In 1986 a man called Hideo Kojima joined the MSX computer division of Konami and - even though he himself would have preferred to work on the NES division - that turned out to be a life-changing event. As an assistant director he worked on the great Penguin Adventure, but later it became clear he was only flexing his muscles there as the games that followed were the legendary Metal Gear, Snatcher, SD-Snatcher and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
Over the years, the Metal Gear series continued to bring in serious money for Konami, allowing Kojima to start his own division within Konami called Kojima Productions. As of April 1st, 2011 Kojima will be promoted to the role of vice president of the company, which lately has been suffering from flat sales and a drop in profits.
