The author of dozens and dozens of game covers during the Spanish software Golden Age, passed away last 18th August at the age of 70. Alfonso Azpiri was a renowned comic book artist although was particularly well known for his work in the game industry for companies such as Dinamic, Topo Soft and Opera Soft in the 80's and early 90's mainly.

We can visualize his fantastic and unmistakable style in covers like Mot, Lorna, Sirwood, Viaje al Centro de la Tierra, Abu Simbel Profanation, Nonamed, Rocky and many others. Special mention should be given to La Corona Encantada by Relevo Videogames, in 2009 Azpiri designed the main cover of a retrogame once again and, as in the past, for sure it boosted sales.

The quality of his legacy will remain forever in our minds. Thank you for letting us dream.

A real shame. RIP.
Having said that, I wasn't familiair with most of this cover art, and even not with some of the games, but it's really impressive.
IMHO this man's work ranks easily among that of legends such as Jean Giraud, Don Lawrence, Enkil Bilal, etcetera.
I'm also baffled that an admittedly silly looking (but fun) game like Abu Simbel Profanation had such awesome artwork.

Really sad. Azpiri's covers spurred the imagination of a whole generation of Spanish computer game players!

Some MSX users like me bought the games because Azpiri´s covers were great! Unfortunatelly, very often the game wasn´t at the same level of the covers (Spectrum ports most). Azpiri has a very caracteristic style, unique. It is very sad that he passed away... but he will remain in our hearts and mind, because he is a part of our childhood. Rest in peace master.
