Ba-Boon!, an MSX1 banana-ape game originally intended to be competing in MSXdev'09, has been postponed until further notice. With the deadline speeding towards them, RELEVO Videogames didn't have time left to polish and test it. Fortunately, they have a backup under the hood. This surprise game is practically done, and will be released tomorrow, so don't worry about a viejoless MSXdev.

I did my MSXDev08 entry in one day, although not really groundbreaking it was still a lot of work to do this.

Try a little harder Tongue

Time will tell ...

I did my MSXDev08 entry in one day, although not really groundbreaking it was still a lot of work to do this.

This is not a big surprise. Well, to be fair most of my games are written into one day too ... Specially the minigames, when I start the write the memory is *OVER*. No music or special effect ...

By the way, is there such a groundbreaking game this year? Apart from the Bridge breaker of the past years (this not fail, it is sure a hit after hit).

By the way, how this 48KB ROM really works? Are you sure that this memory cartridge is playable on real hardware !?

Universe Unknown and The Cure are 48K roms, if you rename them to .com, you can play them in MSX-DOS

MSX-DOS really needs 64KB RAM. Sure if the game is 48KB long, the sofware would need even more RAM to play ...

ROM size has nothing to do with RAM size, unless you running the game with execrom or other "rom loader". You can have a game with 1024Kb of ROM, and using just 1k of RAM, or even less! Remember: you can execute code directly from ROM - only dynamic data (player points, position, etc) needs to be on RAM... or you can even use VRAM for that!

As for .COM files, once MSX-DOS load them in memory, it overwrites the "command.com" memory area, so you don't need the "64k for DOS" + the RAM needed for the game at the same time - just enough memory to run the game.

Yukio, try ODO (http://msxbanzai.tni.nl/dev/software.html). You can load and play 48k Rom games with ODO in all MSX with 64k Ram. And of course, this games work in a real hardware (with real cartridge). Universe Unknown, The Cure, Operation Wolf, Majikazo and the new Knight Lore MSX2 are 48k Rom examples.

BeTiled!, I Need Speed and La Corona Encantada (the final version with improved MSX graphics, not the compo one) are also 48k ROMs.
