The yearly MSX game programming challenge has come to an end. Not with the big last minute rush we hoped for, but nonetheless with eight entries; eight brand new MSX1 games, all for free! Let's have a look at this year's harvest:

  • NeoPong512 (Z80ST Software) - A pong clone in 32KB
  • QBIQS (Z80ST Software) - A clone of Konami's Quarth, 48KB in size
  • Ratbox (AG Software) - A labyrinth game in 16KB
  • Mission2Mir (Ray2day MSX Software) - a vertical shoot 'm up, 16KB
  • Hans' Adventure (The Pets Mode) - a maze game in 48KB
  • DAQ Lord of Idar (Darkstone) - a traditional board game in 32KB
  • Zombie Near (Óscar Toledo Gutiérrez) - an action/maze game in 128KB
  • Heroes Arena (Imanok) - a mix of Pong and Breakout, 32KB

It's now time for the jury members to decide who gets MSXdev'10 gold and what the rest of the ranking should look like. With some games clearly battling for the number one position - and rightly so - this isn't going to be an easy task. While in other years pointing out the winner was much easier, this year it's a different ball game. February 28th, we should know, as that's when the results have been scheduled. Do you have a favorite? Let's hear it!

I think compliments are in place to the entire MSXdev crew and all the developers who ever contributed to the competition. A massive amount of new MSX1 games (more than 100 now?) , most of which in very high quality - definitely suitable for commercial release back in the 1980s! It's an amazing accomplishment. Well done!

Although this year MSXDev was not as impressive as some previous ones, I also agree with Snout. Congratulations to all. Smile

sadly many announced games are missing to the list....

We should promote a sub competition for the best unfinished project where all the sources and the development tools are released with the projects
The repository of open projects could be valuable for the whole scene
Who knows, maybe someone else could pick up some unfinished work and complete it, or use some ideas/tools to complete its own project
;-)

Congratulations for every game made, **INCLUDING** Ratbox!!!! Smile Even there were/are several people (each year) who think that the only way to "motivate" programmer is to say aloud all the hell their mouths can say about BASIC games, I am happy that mr gasparrini is still making BASIC games for MSX. On TI-99/4A forum at Atari Age every little BASIC game effort is highly appretiaced!!!!! And they will help together to make game complete when asked. And anyway they are willing to help, always!!!! Here, people keep just blaming BASIC programmer why the hell he bothers to make such crap non-assembler/C/whatever games and throwing shit at him!!!! Programmer is not "allowed" to make and publish BASIC game here unless he can make a Masterpiece which graphics/plot/sound/gameplay/everything is far better than in any machine code game ever published! Great attitude here along MSX´ers, isn´t it! SadSadSadSadSadSadSadSadSadSad I know, that few BASIC games are liked or at least tolerated here, but the attitude seems to be what I have just said, and NO, Mams and Sirs, I don´t like it! Of course not everybody thinks like that about BASIC games, but still.... I just hope that people could appretiace other´s work with BASIC, at least somehow. Thank you. Smile I feel better now after those words. Smile

How many announced game did not make it? 1 -> HSA

Are you planning to release VW this way?Tongue

Anyway. I really like this years entries. Very good and surprising games. Extra respect for the BASIC entries. I'm very disappointed (understatement) that I could not enter this years edition.

I think the AG Software games are getting better every year, and I'd like to see where that will go.
