MSX Resource Center is back in action

After almost a full week of downtime, the MSX Resource Center is back in action! So what happened? On August 9th, 16:50 a hacker managed to gain access to the MRC webserver and brought the entire webserver down. This left us with no other option than to do a full re-install and re-configuration of Debian Sarge, including taking extra measures to try and prevent similar things from happening again in the future.

It took us quite a while to get there, but as of now the MRC is (almost) fully operational again. The only thing we have not recovered yet is the MSX Club Groningen (July 2005) photoshoot, which we expect to be offering you again in the near future. (If you happen to have saved this photoshoot on your harddisk, please contact us about it).

Although we have no reason to believe the data in our database was obtained as well, we advise you to change your password just in case. If you have an account at the MRC but have forgotten your password you can retrieve it right here. We apologize for the inconvenience and would like to thank everybody who contacted us by phone, mail, MSN, ICQ and/or IRC to show their support to the MRC. It was highly appreciated. MSX forever!

Surely the passwords are stored in the database as MD5 hashes, right? Right??

they are stored as md5 hashes, rest assured... as stated in the newspost... it's really a 'just in case'.

Remember the time when we were little, and eveyone treated us nicely? With the growth of the MRC, I guess trying to hack us is part of being big. Who's gonna hack a page with 1 pageview a day? There's no honour to get there. Still it's wrong of course. Especially when people have to devote even more free time to get this beast running again. Thank you Snout for fixing the MRC and thank you visitors/members to quickly give back this community site the livelyness it deserves. Let's hope we can again spend many hours together on this site.
